Hi all

Quick question:

Anyone know the major differences from between the MED200x, MED400x and MED500x?
As the price difference between the 200x & 400x and 500x is quite significant.

I have reviewed the mede8er site (www.mede8ershop.co.za) and cant really see any differences.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

oh come on man dont be so seriaaaaas :p

my post was very tongue in cheek, and for the money conscious person there are better options

:)

By all means - share - I'm sure you've done an in-depth comparison between the mede8er models and their competitors.

Or the LCD/Plasma, AMD/Intel/Nvidia debate too ;-). Having got my little med300x in December I am happy with it, haven't found a format/codec it doesn't play yet. And my old man has the med500x and it completely blows the Mvix/Tvix out of the water, the Compro isn't a bad unit either. Heard some good things about a WD one, in the end if you find a media player that does exactly what you need then go for it.

ok here we go then :)

well I recently bought a Samsung PS42C431 and needed a media player to go along with it. I had been looking at media players for quite a long time before I got my TV coz I knew that getting one that suited me would be a tricky business.

anyway, eventually after consider the options I decided on a few things.

1. it had to be able to play HD
2. it had to support DTS
3. it had to support both streaming via LAN and internal HDD
4. it had to look good (though I was prepared to concede this)

I eventually landed up (as most people do) with the two options.

Mede8er VS AC Ryan. Even though the AC Ryan was cheaper and offered all that I needed, its HUGE. Too big for me... It was enough to push me over to the mede8er. But the price... Basically R2k for the model without the HDD and just goes up from there...

JUGGY then brought to my attention one of these

I was skeptical at first but I did some research. A couple of people on the forum have them now, and I must be honest this is the best thing I've bought for a long time!!! My only concern was that some people reported that you had to point the remote STRAIGHT AT THE UNIT which was annoying. I dont have that issue. I can point anywhere in the room and it works.

The best part? This thing cost me R1300 including a Seagate 1TB 7200.12 HDD

All in all, im one happy chappy! :D

A media player without an internal hdd is completely pointless and like htc I invested in the Compro for almost the same price as the HDDless mede8ter and I'm pretty satisfied.

Ok so where did buy it from? locally or from that site?

And what can this unit not do that the others can't and vice versa?

Actually not - I would actually prefer my media player without a hard drive, it will run quieter and cooler. I now have close on 10TB of media - can you tell me how to get this onto a harddrive in a media player?

If the MEX400 was out when I bought my MEX500 - I wouild have bought it instead,

well I dont have an experience with the AC Ryan or the Mede8er so all I can really say is that I havent experienced anything that annoys me so far on the Compro.

I guess one downside might be you dont have buttons on the front panel, but who cares

I've had one file that I wasnt able to play, but that was due to http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010/08/09/mkv-mania-header-compression-and-the-side-effects/ but you not gonna get that often. Only on files where people upload torrents where they dont know what the hell they are doing. All regular releases, tv series and movies, I havent had any issues.

I havent tried the streaming option yet, but I havent had to yet... Will try it out some time! :)
