Hi There MyBBs

Looking for a new Android media Player and what good options and reviews from others.

1) MyGica ATV329X
Had one of these and not bad except dstv now issues and having to use a old version for it to work.
+ The remote control is awesome

2) Xiaomi Mi Box S (Have not used one)
Read up and seems not a bad option since google verified
+google verified

3) Telkom LIT Box
Played around on friends one to check out and actually not to bad.
- remote not the best
+google verified

4) Amazon Fire TV Cube (Have not used one)
Seems awesome but no real local suppliers and pricey
+google verified

Any other good options? the mxq players are terrible not even worth mentioning!

Before someone flames you for not using the SEARCH function and trawling through hundreds of pages, go for the Xiaomi Mi. You can indeed sideload.

And also be good to know what you want to use it for as different boxes have different strengths

Thanks i actually have gone thru that thread just wondering what other good players are out there that people locally have tested. Put the minus on sideload as you have to sideload alot of apps.

Mostly for Dstv now, Ciberflix, Cinema hd.
Basically want to replace my MyGiga with something similar and a decent remote.

I've only sideloaded YouTube Vanced and Chrome (strangely, Android TV does not come with a browser). What else would you have to sideload? I've got Deezer, Netflix, Showmax, DSTVnow, VLC, which is basically what I use.

Mi box will work well then it's Google certified and runs DSTV now, Netflix and Spotify.

Cool thanks all, will look at the Mi Box and assume the Mi Box S is a bit better.

Out of curiosity why is sideloading apps a negative
I was referring to the sideload launcher where you have to open a app to get to your other apps...
But then again thats a small price to pay to have any apps you want on the media player

I have never heard that, I just sideload and put in home screen, maybe it's from certain apps

Maybe I am misunderstanding

The newest versions of Netflix, Dstv now, etc won't work without Google certification.
Yes I know, he had listed under the mibox as a negative but I see it's been changed

I bought a no-name-brand media player from Computer Mania. Called a Media Mate II
I was able to install any Google Play Store app on the device, including VLC.
We have had absolutely NO issues with it, aside from it needing a reset every so often (as is the case with Android in general)

Not much difference between the Mi Box S and Mi Box 4k. Mi Box ticks all the boxes. There was someone selling a fire cube in the classifieds so the "getting it locally issue" can be resolved should you want one. Amazon stuff though don't play well with google stuff. So Mi Box still wins.
