Media24 to take on Google?

You know, I can't understand why companies as big as Media24 will want to take on Google, why not just use it, it's brilliant, it's so close to perfection, as if they can come up with something better! PLZ!

How many more millions will they need to spend to get it even 'close' ?!?

Give up trying to reinvent the wheel Media24!

Actually, it's sorta like this;

Hey, we got millions to waste, let's try this, we'll make a name for ourselves too while we at it. A SA company taking on Google (or part of it) should get them some exposure ;)

I suggest Media24 pay their other companies staff at Peoples post the overtime they owe them :)
 
what indexing/search algorithms are they going to use... are they going to use google technolgy to take on google....LOL
 
All this does is confirm for me that you don't have to be a genius of any calibre to be in top management. Once a company gets to a certain size it just becomes hard to fcck it up to badly.

Don't know if I'd include Eskom and Government in there.
 
Actually I should qualify my above statements by saying that a company with good middle management doesn't need much in the IQ department from upstairs once it reaches a certain size.

Because google adverts don't give 24.com money while a 24.com search engine will?

But the chances of stealing way people goolge is very slim, MS and Yahoo have been trying for years and not getting anywhere.

Entire things reminds me of a kid throwing a tantrum and nobody even takes note.
 
if they can make local search results more relevant to locals, well, that won't be such a bad thing. i doubt anyone in his right mind would want to 'take on google'. maybe this is a media comparison drawn when they see the phrase 'search'. the internet is big enough to allow everyone to play, isn't it?
 
Actually I agree with Saule, what exactly are they trying to make money out of? Sure most of Google's revenue comes from advertising, but there are (currently) not enough South Africans making use of online advertising to create enough revenue for 24 to do this.
