Media24 to take on Google?

Someone contact Media24 and ask them to please come and explain this 'stupid' strategy to us 'smarter' underlings ;)

Actually I agree with Saule, what exactly are they trying to make money out of? Sure most of Google's revenue comes from advertising, but there are (currently) not enough South Africans making use of online advertising to create enough revenue for 24 to do this.

Thats part of why its such a **** idea. The reason google is a success is because they're cheap and they started small and got rich on volume.
A company like 24 has shareholders who are going to want to see quick returns. So what wil happen is they'll price themselves out of the market or try to compete and it'll just be embarressing.

I hope they FAIL!! I hate Media24.. they think that they own every URL that has the number 24 in it.. I dare you to register turdmuncher24.com/co.za and wait and see how long they take to knock on your door.

Clearly an personal opinion, not based on some fact checks before dismissing the very FAIR observation, by an industry specialist.

Clearly aspiration is there. But lots of peaces are lacking form your puzzle Mr.R
Some times one odds to check references on what ones staff is writing in those reports left on ones desk.

Just a thought ... leave it with you .... use it ..... don't use it..

DONE!!!

Lets see how fast I will get the letter accusing me of cybersquatting..
:)

Let me be devil's advocate. Everything has been done before so there's always a bit of reinventing the wheel. Richard Branson took on the music industry. People thought he was mad. Then he took on the airline industry. Again, people thought he was mad. This is what visionary companies and leaders do. Go and have a look at what the Naspers share price is doing. Someone is believing in this.

"Naspers' share price hangs on the fact that they ... are a mega-monopoly"

Wrong again. No-one in their right mind will buy shares in a company just because they're big. In fact, your one example Edcon isn't doing that great. Nor are the banks - all big mothers. Investors buy into vision and strategy.
