I thought someone who went to varsity would understand that the mere fact that he was allowed to repeat a subject 10 times is already a massive leniency.
If I didn't complete my B.Sc within 5 years, I'd lose the first year's credits and would have to do them again. If my wife failed a year twice, she'd have to restart her MBChB from scratch. Failing one subject would've resulted in her repeating the entire year.

I'd be scared to death if someone who failed a subject 10 times were my doctor.

I think you're pretty screwed once you get to the heart-amputation level, no matter how many times the doc had to try for an exam

I wasn't going to comment on the failing 10 times things. I know that the 4 main universities allow you to fail 3 times before you pretty much get kicked out.

I think some people are just sad that they weren't part of any kind of struggle now they perceive themselves to be in a struggle a struggle with themselves. Sad really when people think that when a lecturer tells you: Only 50% of you will make it through the first year. That it is racism.
They have been saying it to all students from the beginning of time. Because it is true. Not because of race, because that is what happens. Students party to much, find a job and wander off course and some are just not equipped to deal with studying and dedication 7 years of your life to becoming a doctor.


If you can't pass a subject after the 10th time... maybe you should consider a different path?

Sounds about right. Plus, people are allowed into the degree who simply don't belong there. The majority of the people in my wife's class were under the top 100 matriculants in the province, if not the country. I'd be surprised if a single non-quota person got in with an average of less than 90%. Even some of these guys failed to complete the degree. The guys who barely got the minimum requirements for the degree and got in purely based on race, were butchered. I recall a failure rate of something like 75% of the first year.

Sad to see our future health-care workers acting like that .. another example of the mob savagery so prevalent in SA. I would expect them to behave in a civilized manner when they protest, but no .. the "break-it-and-burn-it" mentality is too strong.

After reading the entire thread I have to agree that "animals" is probably the closest word that you can use.

Oke now are these people sponsored? How the hell does parents allow for kids to fail that many times and go back? At some point you have the responsibility as an adult to say: Pull up your socks get a job i'm not paying for your shyte anymore.
