Medunsa protests

Glad its nonsense to you..

Because its not nonsense to a large number of employers out there, its a reality, and it has sweet FA to do with race or previous status of the institution in terms of it being previously "white" or previously "black"

We all know most of the non-government employers are racist, which is why we have affirmative action, BEE, Employment Equity, Youth Employment Incentive Scheme, etc.

Nonsense. How do you determine the general attitude of the graduate when you are meeting him/her for the first time? You are trying to justify the tendency of employing graduates from the previously white institutions at the expense of those from the previously black institutions.

Attitude in an interview counts for a huge amount, if you get interviewed generally your qualifications have passed an initial review and the interviewer is trying to see if you are a "good fit" for the company, if you act like an entitled git then you most likely won't be a good fit.

Am glad "we" all know that, citation?

Again, you're talking complete twaddle.

Most non-government employers are not racist. They just want to hire the best candidate regardless of skin colour.

Are you implying that someone acting like a complete twat when meeting them for the first time, should be granted an opportunity in a position, even though his mere presence grinds your gears?

So what makes a medunsa graduate have an attitude problem in an interview compared to a UCT graduate?

They have a tendency to protest for ridiculous BS, whereas the UCT graduate doesn't.

It just so happens that the best candidates are non-black, and according to you that's because the blacks have an attitude problem which they get from universities like medunsa. It makes sense.

Nice try rza, nice try... but as always you fail...

So what makes a medunsa graduate have an attitude problem in an interview compared to a UCT graduate?

Am arguing that "if" they have an attitude problem it would generally rule them out of consideration for a position.

I would suggest that being involved in violent protests for not passing would be a pretty good indicator though...

Who does rankings, and based on what?

Oh ffs, don't be an idiot, this is common knowledge and widely published. Hell, if you actually opened the Wiki link, they refer to several independent bodies and they cite their metrics. But in case your internet is broken, it's based on various metrics, including pass rates, prestige of lecturers, citations, publications, success rate of students...

FYI, according to the URAP rank, the only one bothering to go down that far in the scale, Limpopo is ranked 1700th out of all the universities they rank. UCT is 231st. We have excellent universities. University of Limpopo doesn't fall under that rank.

The bold part is connected to research which is funded better in other varsities compared to others. That's why traditionally black institutions get lower rankings. success rate is also linked to the former. a graduate from wits is seen as superior to a graduate from univen for such stupid reasons. The only argument that will hold any water is if you tell me the curriculum somewhere is easier.

so you are just going to try and ignore the "pass rate" aspect of the ranking?

Nice....

It determines the quality of the institution... They are ranking institutions, not specific graduates.

So basically you agree that the system is too flawed to measure the quality of the graduates coming out of the said university?

Not in the slightest....

I am fully in agreement with the system. An institution with a piss poor pass rate, rubbish lecturers, minimal research calibre, minimal paper publishing is not anywhere near the top of my list of places to source a graduate from.
