Medunsa protests

Stop leaving in dream world. when has that ever happened? when there is a mass protest, its is MASS protest
I am sorry but this is a horsesh[1]t sentiment
I have attended and convened protests of over a 1000 people - including VERY UNHAPPY people - and no violence: a few nasty names directed at an mayor and I've had to direct that a firearm be handed to a constable but a mass protest does not equate to violence (its quite an experience instructing somebody who has a gun)

Not in the slightest....

I am fully in agreement with the system. An institution with a piss poor pass rate, rubbish lecturers, minimal research calibre, minimal paper publishing is not anywhere near the top of my list of places to source a graduate from.

Ignorance at its best. IIll give you an example in my line of work. The quality of a doctor is determined by Good communication skills, Ability to diagnose patients and manage accordingly. You don't need someone with 20 publications to teach you that. If a student has demonstrated in his exams that he is capable of doing that (external examiners present)then I fail to see the importance of where he graduated. Whether his professor cured HIV or not is irrelevant. His answers in exams are more important.

Lolwut? This just screams "I don't know what I'm talking about". Passing exams speaks very little of your real-world ability.

Buddy, I suggest you take it easy with the labeling of people. You called me a racist without knowing anything about me, which I let slide. Now you're calling TB ignorant on hiring practices? You seem to be under the impression that none of the members here are senior people in a wide range of companies and organizations (private and public), who are the people who make the calls on hiring people.

I see the hard-working blameless wannabe doctors are still having a "strike".

Pretoria - A student strike at the Ga-Rankuwa campus of the Medical University of SA (Medunsa) entered its third day today and the students have vowed not to allow anyone on to the campus until their demands have been met.

The students said on Sunday that gates would again be locked and staff and members of the public would be denied access while the students protested against alleged irregularities and unfair practices by lectures and administrators.

“What will they be coming here for if they have no interest in sorting out our problems,” said the president of the student representative body, Melusi Marakalala, on Sunday.

“They have evidence of it all and yet sit on it instead of acting in the interest of the students,” he said.

Among issues in the memo, given to acting deputy vice-chancellor Professor Tsepho Gugushe on Thursday, students alleged that fifth-year students were victimised and named seven lectures(sic), six of them professors, who deliberately “failed students”.

I work with people from the top varsities too and there is nothing special about them. Whats the point? My point is that exam answers are more important than who your professor is because it is a measure of your knowledge not that of your professor. with that said, i know a lot of doctors with great marks who are terrible clinicians so i understand your point

So why do we have professors? Fire the lot we don't need them.
You are talking BS. You know that right? Or are you special?

Well he went to Medunsa, so he must be special obviously.

We need to fire all teachers. Who needs them?
Just give everybody a book. And we will have the worlds best in everything.

Next time people complain about why kids in under privileged areas are doing badly compared to rich kids. I'm pointing them to this thread.
FFs. Give them a book. They will read eventually.
Even better give it to them in Chinese. In a few years time we will have a whole generation fluent in Chinese.

Doubt it, we might have a whole generation fluent in fire making with Chinese literature though...

No no. You don't need quality teachers. You just need a guy that has been to china, once. Then you give the kids this guy and a Chinese book and they will be the best.

Other than that they passed their exams by their own work and intelligence, as opposed to being given pass marks on the basis of mob rioting and destruction of property and "demands". Makes a bit of a difference, not so?

Im sure you dont even know a single person who did that. Do you?

Having bad teachers put you at a disadvantage. but passing despite that means you are really good. Am i wrong?

I am not special. Neither are the people from top universities. that's my point here
Doesn't matter a whit. In the real world if you get your degree from a higher education facility that is perceived as producing low quality graduates, then you have less chance of getting a job than the graduate from a university that is perceived as being highly rated .
You can scream and shout and jump up and down until you are blue in the face about how unjust it is that you are not treated equally... the real world doesn't give a schidt.
... top graduates from top universities get top posts ... fact

You argue that they don't need good professors, you are just making the point that this protest action is for naught.

If they don't need the best professors, they don't need the best sound, classrooms or accommodation.

Your grades that is all that counts. ;) so go study and stop burning stuff. But they rather burn things and blame everything and the dog for their failure.
