Can Melon users confirm the claims , especially the lack of USSD

Melon Mobile: the morning after

I've been with them for almost a month now. Ported my number over. The app looks nice and works it's also better than the uConnect app and meandyou mobile which doesn't even have one. Once you delete your esim you're SOL however. They don't give you a way to get the QR code again and you'll have to go through Whatsapp support and do a sim swop. Haven't had them just flat out delete the esim like meandyou mobile did this week. Whatsapp support is fast and they do listen to customer feedback. USSD support was added. Also some bugs I reported got fixed.

As noted above it doesn't have zero rated access as far as I can tell or the notion of airtime. I never understood airtime anyway. Just give me SMS, minutes and data. OOB airtime rates just work out more expensive anyway and converting to and fro.

Prices:
Flat out Air mobile is still cheaper with 1gb free and only R30 per any extra gig whereas Melon mobile is R60 per gig. With Melon however the more you buy the cheaper it gets so I'm paying R15 per gig and R35 for 50 minutes.
Melon MobileAfrihost Air Mobile
2gb dataR30 (R750 for 50gb carried over)R30 (1gb free)
50 minutesR35 p/mR50
Total:R65R80
So as you can see Melon can work out cheaper.

TL;DR should you move on over to them?
I'd say yes. You get much less MTN spam. I used to get 3 sms a day but now only get 1 / 2 a week if that. Air mobile is still cheaper if you want a prepaid deal and if you don't value your time and sanity.

To get 50min for R35 you need to be on their month to month contract?

I just signed up for the eSIM on Melon - very easy.

I tried to add a PIN lock and it kept asking me for the existing code (there is no existing PIN), so I locked myself out of the SIM within 2 minutes. Now support says there is no PUK for eSIMs, so they can't help me.

This is ridiculous as every SIM must have a PUK, because anyone can add a PIN, then forget it, then need the PUK to unlock it. I must be the first person that has ever done this as they don't have a clue what is going on.

Now they are trying to tell me that my Pixel 8 is not on their supported phones list, but the eSIM was working perfectly, so that is not the problem. Eish, these new companies and their teething problems...

EDIT: They eventually got a PUK from MTN and sent it to me - which worked. Turns out that calls don't work as MTN does not support any Google phones yet, but at least the data works. They are working on getting the phone to work...

A sim pin?

Explain. How do you stop someone who finds your phone from getting access to your SIM?
What am I missing?
