Melon Mobile Launching Soon?

Me personally I wouldn't want my primary sim with these small player Mvno's, especially not if it’s an important number that you've had for an eternity that would be very painful to lose, their support can be very patchy and when things go horribly wrong there's no walk in stores and contacting anyone that can actually look into things and escalate can be very difficult. For a secondary sim or data sim, they are great or if you don't mind losing your primary number.
Lol it's not like MTN / Vodacon is any better. Look at their support complaints on the forum over the years.

They may not be much better but you can least speak to a human or find contact emails for someone who will eventually escalate things. Maybe Melon is a bit better I don't know but lots of these Mvno's run on skeleton staff and even speaking to anyone via any channel can be neigh impossible. The scum of the earth the Ignition group runs 2 or 3 of these Mvno's, I have had dealings with them previously and they are totally useless, their sole purpose is to take your money and then drop you.

The only Mnvo that may be ok is Afrihost and even there I had a terrible experience with their support, it took 4 weeks to do an esim swop, their support incl the rep on the forum are as dense and slowed up as you could possibly imagine. During the whole time I could not use the number, imagine if that was my main number

Despite how bad MTN can be I've never had any down time with my numbers in all the years I've used them, I've had missing airtime and issues with contract billing but the sims have always been available and sim swops seamless.

So far, my experience with Melon was great. From WhatsApp I requested a callback, because messages are just too tedious and they called me back right away.

That being said, perhaps customer sign up and technical support is not the same.

So the SIM activation went seamlessly, although that is probably not a very complex operation. The app just feels like it works really well.

The porting is underway, and I think because I only submitted the porting request yesterday at around 15h00, it is not done yet.

Yeah, I saw the site a few days ago. Looks like something's definitely brewing. Calvin Collett was behind Melon previously, so it's interesting to see him trying something fresh. The no-expiry data angle sounds promising if they can pull it off properly. Would be good to know which network they’ll be using, I'm guessing MTN or Cell C, but just speculating. Anyone heard anything concrete yet?
Melon runs on MTN, you are a bit late to the party, they launched in late 2023 already?

Yep, I’m with you on this. My main number will always stay with Vodacom. I was affected when Me & You Mobile suddenly dropped eSIMs. luckily it was just a secondary number I only used for data in one of the kids devices.

Also, my main Vodacom plan is heavily discounted, around 80%. No mvno pricing comes close anyway.

Did you lose that number?

I tested Melon a while back, it was okayish. Recently signed up for an MTN superflex 10gb account (unlimited minutes) - R299 a month and has an eSim, works well so far. I was contemplating moving my primary number over, but you never know how pricing etc. may change over time, so would rather keep the primary number on something else.

Porting completed, now I also have 5G reception, where I never had with Telkom Mobile.

This process was seamless, and the app works great! The next step is to find out what happens to my number in the unfortunate event of Melon going under.

Excellent download speed.

Please could you test/check if VoLTE and WiFi-Calling is functional on Melon Mobile ?

Thank you
