Messi vs Ronaldo

Eto’o Rates Messi Above Ronaldo

Barcelona hot-shot Samuel Eto’o has joined in the debate to determine who the best player in the world is at present and the Cameroonian had little hesitation in choosing teammate, Lionel Messi.

“Cristiano (Ronaldo) is a great player, but Messi is above everybody at the moment,” he told French television channel, TF1.

“He does things not just in training but during matches that no one has ever done before.

“He is the new Maradona. He is a player who makes other people dream of playing like him,” he added.

I think everyone knows his the better player, every week there is another football player/coach saying Messi is the best in the world.

As a complete footballer - Ronaldo is currently better than Messi. He uses his head better, is stronger and faster. Has much better set piece ability and can score with both feet. That said, his downfalls are what totally ruin his game. The fact that he is stronger than Messi and falls down 5X as much wheras Messi just keeps going like the energizer bunny is what shows the differance between the two players. Messi has more passion, wants to win more than Ronaldo. Messi makes his teammates look good wheras
Ronaldo needs his teammates to make him look good. Thats the crucial difference. Messi in the long run will outplay Ronaldo on all fronts.

Messi can score from both feet. He has been doing this for a while.

Is faster with the ball at his feet than any player in the world. Messi's ability to setup team mates and draw 3, 4, 5 defenders to him is his best asset.

His dribbling skill is from another planet and simply cannot be matched by anybody.

He's still not physically able to match Ronaldo. His setpieces are nothing compared to Ronaldo's. He is not a threat in the air. As a complete footballer - Ronaldo is the clear winner. Ronaldo misses the mental strength of Messi. Thats the key difference.

Just coz he's a MU player, doesnt mean I won't admit he can be the greatest player ever. (Ok.. after Terry:p)

I agree there are areas that Ronaldo is better. Like the free kicks and in the air. But thats about it. Every other aspect of the game, Messi is better. He was a better footballer last season and the season before that. Hell, he scored a hat trick against Real Madrid when he was 19. He performed like this for the past 3 seasons.

Injury is what stopped him performing. This season i am hoping that it will be different.

And that is why the physical aspect is so important. No one cares that Van Persie plays brilliantly - seeing as he only plays 3 games a season. Pele, Maradonna, Puskas - all these players had the strength and fotness to carry on for long streches. Maradonna might have been short - but he was a beast, his legs were the size of tree trunks and much "larger" players had trouble pushing him around. Unless Messi beefs up - he'll be another in a long line of "almost-theres"...

Sorry for laughing man. But you have it so wrong :D

Messi has been playing this way last year, and the year before. Defenders still cannot push him around, he doesnt need to beef up. He has no problem beating 5 players, even tho they are trying to hack his legs and push him down - he stays on his feet.

Right... so Owen broke his leg, lost half a yard of pace and has kept the promise shown early on....? Seriously... unless he gets slightly larger and a tad mroe durable - the first really major injury he has will wipe him out. nuff sed

Well he has been injured for very long periods over the past years and it hasnt affected his game. I dont understand why u he needs to bulk up, have you seen the size of his legs? They twice the size of most guys legs.

Also, he is extremely strong on the ball. He gets shoved, pulled, hacked but he stays on his feet.

Lets have this debate in a few months when we compare the two players season so far.

Watching Ronaldo against Villa it is even more evident that he isnt even close to Messi.

The impact Messi has on the game is massive compared to Ronaldo's.

Some good points made by Senna.

Marcos Senna Slams Ronaldo

The two sides are due to meet in midweek when the two sides go head-to-head in the Champions League on Tuesday.

And according to the News of the World the Spanish star appears to be clearly unimpressed with the Red Devil.

“Cristiano is a great player and I once said he made up 50 per cent of United’s strike force,” said Senna.

“Now I think I over-rated his importance. When Cristiano does not score, his role is limited. Yes, he is fast, but countless step-overs are not necessarily productive.”

Ronaldo limped out of United’s goalless draw with Aston Villa yesterday and is now a doubt for the Villarreal game.

Yet Senna clearly does not believe the hype that surrounds the Portuguese player and views Ronaldinho as a better footballer.

“He is not a complete player like Ronaldinho in the good times,” explained the Villarreal skipper.

“He used to score, take penalties, free kicks, dribble, give accurate short and deep passes, assist and run everywhere.”

United travel to Spain on Tuesday to meet Villarreal with both sides hoping to improve on the goalless draw the two sides shared at Old Trafford in their opening Champions League encounter of the season.

The Argentine international had special praise for colleague Messi, saying that the only way to stop him is to make him ill and not let him play the game.

Anyways I have always said that anybody who thinks Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi is blind.
