Meteor over Russia

Some crazy footage! On the dashcam ones I was never quite quite whether to look up in the sky or ahead on the road for a crazy accident likely involving livestock and a Lada.

I also highly, highly doubt it was intercepted. In fact, no. Just no.
 
I don’t think any agency monitors and tracks objects of this size for potential impacts. There’s way to many and they are all difficult to see. This is not only due to the size but any cold object is particularly hard to find in a black sky where things are millions of kilometres apart and that’s just considering our solar system.

Not only that but why blow it up so late in its approach? Friction is what caused this thing to rip apart.

I actually believe these types impacts occurs much more than people think. If you take into account 74% will hit the ocean which leaves only 26% land available. Humans cluster and clump together in colonies thus leaving lots of open space where something can hit without anybody knowing. Think Sahara desert, middle Congo, middle amazon, Russia has vast open land, Northern Canada, Antarctica and all these in between open pieces of land from horizon to horizon where civilisation isn’t setting foot every day.

Will an Eskimo report it, or an Ethiopian?

We’re only getting a small bit of this information in my opinion probably, only 15% of biggish impacts.
 
According to the Russian Academy of Sciences it was a 10 ton object.

Initial estimates for the Russian Meteor are a 1.5 meters 10 ton object traveling at 15 km/s that disintegrated at a height of 30-50 km.

Another one is going to land in the pacific in roughly 6 hours.

If you can watch RT on dstv, some silly folk think it isn't a proper news site but there is a new one coming in 6 hours.

This is not DA14, way to small for it, and no Russians did not hit it either, hell no one even knew it was out there till it entered the atmosphere.

No confirmed reports that its part of DA14 either, it might have been a rock knocked off course by DA14 but that is just a guess so far.

I do not think speed was the issue for the delay, more like distance as sound travel a lot slower than light.

Anyway estimates had it at about 53100+ kph, sonic boom happens at 1 226 or more kph(at sea level & 20°C) so it did clock some speed.

Was this the same meteor they spoke about on the news that said it will miss earth easily on the 15th February and will curve around it :D

They said it wouldn't cause damage so imagine the other meteors/asteroids they have predicted wrong and will hit the earth's atmosphere.

No. That's an asteroid which still poses no threat to the Earth at all.
