Seems like someone (another ISP) already published the new speeds. Interesting.

Yeah, a few of the smaller ISPs have already published new speeds and updated their pricing. These prices look really good compared to the competition

Stemconnect uses MFN for their broadband and "work from home" fibre but they still have contracts in this day and age

I've added a picture of the packages from alicom in case anyone doesn't want to enter their address to view the packages

Wow yeah the price drop we needed. 50mbps at R650 is not too bad. Way better than the current R899 with Cool Ideas.

That's great, now maybe they can fix their links going up and down in Jhb / Pta area.

Will be getting my 1Gbps line. Can't wait.
Is it going to be available to everyone? WebSquad mentioned it will not be available to everyone at first, is there any way to get your name in line to be signed up for the Gigabit service?

It's launching 1st of May so let's see what happens.

Any idea when the new prices will come to Cool Ideas?

Indeed. Around 20:00 last night it was pretty annoying. PPPoE would be connected with no traffic flow with Cool ideas MFN.

Reboot would work for 5mins same thing again.
Report it, I had a ping issue where I was getting 20ms to JHB servers once. Phoned support, got an email address of a higher level tech and they figured out it was something to do with the firewall at Hetzner - solved the problem. I would say that's far better then the generic response I've heard saying "20ms is within spec". I do suggest emailing or giving them a call.

MetroFibre doubles up on speed and introduces new packages on its open access network for FTTH customers

The open access Fibre Network Operator (FNO) is upgrading and doubling up line speeds on all its FTTH fibre packages at no additional cost, and also introducing a new entry level 20Mbps package, a 500Mbps and a 1Gbps package for intensive users.

The overhaul is part of MetroFibre’s drive to make quality fibre internet access as ubiquitous and accessible as possible for South Africans. The product adjustments will be effective from 1 May 2022 and rolled out over a two-week period after that.

Existing MetroFibre direct FTTH customers will automatically be upgraded to the next higher speed at no additional cost. Customers of ISPs and resellers operating on the MetroFibre network will be advised by their ISPs/resellers as to the timing of the upgrade rollout.
Good news - another doubling
