Which ISP are you using on the MFN Network?

asking for a friend...

with MWEb on Metrofiber, do they run PPPoE ? ie can I configure a pfSense as my edge router and go directly into the MetroFiber ONT ?

Only MetroFibre ISP provides internet directly on the ONT. If it's Open Access the ISP provides PPPoE or DHCP.
 
ok so any ISP on top of Metrofiber will be using PPPoE...

I want not planning on internet directly on the ONT, question was using pfSense directly onto the ONT, pfSense configured with PPPoE credentials, instead of the ISP supplied router.

Yes it will be either PPPoE or DHCP but yes you will be able to use your own router if you go with an Open Access ISP and pick Metro Fibre as the FNO.
 
well we know Metrofiber is a open network...
question is would MWEb (as ISP) allow it... as they shipped the router to client... the client never entered any credentials onto the router so worried that they pre configured it and potential MAC address locked it to the client. (Now I know I can MAC address close onto the pfSense....)

Need someone thats with MWeb on Metrofiber to comment that's done this, lets not comment how the tech generally works.

Get Level-7 to log a ticket for the line to be re-provisioned. There is an issue with the 500/500 and 1000/250 profiles on calix ONT's

Started on 27th April.
I think MFN "fixed" a fault in our area by moving another street onto our GPON POS (passive optical splitter)
This is on MWEB+MetroFibre.

I have logged a call with MWEB - still waiting for feedback.

EDIT1: AFAIK, this issue is NOT related to the speed upgrades.
Seems to be caused by a repair in my suburb conducted ~26 April.

Also experiencing high average latency and reduced speeds during peak hours (6pm - 10pm). I'm located in Durban. Issue reported numerous times to both MWEB and MFN since March when the fibre was activated but still issue continues.

Thanks, however they never confirmed whether they are bumping their clients up or not? At first they said they were not aware of the upgrades and then they said it was still a "process in the making"...

I'm on MetroFibre + MWEB.
I have a Calix 803 ONT - this is a dumb ONT
Change from the WR7010v2 MWEB router to an RPI4 as my edge router - running Debian 11.

Just get the credentials from the existing router or from MWEB site and configure pppoe on RPI4.

EDIT: I've used 4 different PPPoE devices - MWEB WR7010v2, TP-Link EC230-G1, 2 x RPI4 and sometimes 2 devices via hub - so not MAC locked.

Hi,

I'm also getting high average latency and reduced speeds during peak hours (6pm - 10pm). I'm located in Glenwood. Accelerit and MFN.

Ok, so got confirmation that I was "automatically upgraded" to 500/500 but still only seeing 250/250. I've logged a ticket now for this... Would have been nice if they informed people, especially those who enquired about the Metrofibre line speed upgrades. :rolleyes:
