Metrofibre Feedback

Which ISP are you using on the MFN Network?

I'm switching ISPs away from Metrofibre Direct to Web Africa.
On 26 September Metrofibre came to remove the ONT and replace it with a new one. The new ISP cannot get the line activated because MFN Direct doesn't want to cancel the package and release the line.

Metrofibre says "cancellations carry a 30 day notice" and they "cannot release the line before the expiry date". So why remove the working ONT early then?

Well played Metrofibre. Best revenge for cancelling...
Metrofibre takes the ONT with an activated fibre line, I've paid for the full month already (which I'm perfectly fine with) but they refuse to release the line so that I can get my internet service reactivated with the new ISP. Well done!

How can I just get Metrofibre to release the line? They've got my money already so they've got absolutely nothing to lose by just releasing the line?!
Are there any Metrofibre reps or anyone that can assist?

Back to a Metrofibre question:

I have had a Metrofibre 1G/500Mbps line installed - All go after it was provisioned.
I have the Calix GigaPoint 803G ONT adn a supplied Nokia Wifi Beacon 2 router.

Measurements:

ONT to Opnsense Router with with a PPPoE connection - 650Mbps down
ONT directly to new i5 Laptop with PPPoE connection - 650Mbps down
ONT to WAN on Nokia Wifi6 Router, LAN to Opnsense Router, ecthernet to PC - 900Mbps down
ONT to WAN on Nokia Wifi6 Router, Wifi to Samsung Galaxy S21 - 720Mbps down

None of the MetroFibre Tech and tech support understand why.
Opnsense has all the PPPoE compression etc. enabled.

There must be some configuration on the provisioned Nokia Router, but what? Most config seetings are locked down as one can expect.

Any advise or explanations?
@Randmental1 I have the same issue, did you manage to find a solution?

You going to Web Africa? The worst ISP in South Africa?
Switching to them is definitely not going to resolve your issue, trying to cancel with Web Africa is going to make you laugh at how easy it was was Metrofibre

I think the 30 day is standard.
I had to wait for my notice to expire before MFN would release my line from Initio360 to MWEB.

30 day seems to be standard yes but they aren’t always clear. I got caught out as well… was offline for like 3 or 4 days.

Agreed. Seems like you going backwards if you moving to WebAfrica. Nightmare!

I moved 3 or 4 households in my family away from WebAfrica and over to Afrihost - couldn’t have been happier. Afrihost are great.

Switching would literally resolve my issue of having no internet

I had to wait for my notice to expire before MFN would my line from Initio360 to MWEB.

When I switched from Mind The Speed to MFN Direct, Mind The Speed cancelled the package the day MFN Direct delivered the router, released the line and it was reactivated with MFN Direct the next day.
The issue isn't with the FNO Metrofibre, the issue is with the ISP MFN Direct simply not terminating the service early even though there literally is no service anymore as they removed the Nokia G-2425G router+ONT unit on the 26th and it was replaced with a standalone Nokia G-010G-R.

30 days is standard, doesn't mean they need to not release the line until the 30 days are over.
They can terminate it early same as Mind The Speed previously did, MFN Direct simply aren't doing it cause... reasons...

I'm not trying to get a credit note due to early termination, they already have the full month's payment, keep it.
Just terminate the service so the new ISP's line activation request to the FNO succeeds cause I'm anyway already sitting without any service.

MFN Direct got me about 4 days of downtime and 5 days of less than 2mbps on a 250/250 package in just the last month and a half.
It's been nothing than but a nightmare since day two with MFN Direct.
Day one was fine, day two the downtime already started

I give it less than 2 months before you want to switch from WebAfrica

Metrofibre Direct used to be called Gigago.

They had terrible service back then with a clueless 1-man (woman) support team. Then they renamed a while ago. It would be a terrible choice to go to Web Africa or even Mweb. Rather choose an ISP with good support, such as Cool Ideas or Afrihost.

I am with Cool Ideas and got a 400/400 line with Metrofibre. Good combination.

Oooof. Had this EXACT thing happen with me and Cell C. They demanded I sit 30 days with 0 internet or sign up for a new contract.

That was 8 years or so ago, I'm still with them, the bloody buggers.

Morning @AfriNatic / @Afrigirl ,
Hope you can help with this as I saw someone else also had this issue and you apparently sorted it.
I have a new Metrofibre installation, it's supposed to be on the 250Mbps package but upload and download is stuck at around 5Mbps since installation (around 7 days now). As far as I'm concerned this is not a complete installation since it's not working yet, Afrihost billing department disgrees though.

Two of my neighbours are struggling with the same issue (all installed on the same day).

Can you please sort this out?

Morning @b1scu1t - please DM your profile details so we may followup with our teams and advise on the way forward taking the above into account asap today. We're on standby to help.

Is Metrofibre having money problems? Because they canceled/delayed major projects and are now implementing price increases....

Which major projects did they cancel/delay?
Price increases after a major price cut can only mean that uptake was not what they expected thus they're adjusting for that misjudgement.
