I get that you don't like the Apple and it seems obscenely priced to you. That's fair, it is a lot of money. I wouldn't say it's expensive, as you get a lot for your money. But it is a lot of money, especially when rolling out en masse.
And as with all things IT, the use case determines the hardware and software. The Mac won't be right for every situation. But they are great in many situations and will only get better as ARM support is increased. As it stands, they have no peer in terms of pure performance/battery life, which is a big deal to a lot of people. It's also only the first generation, next-gen ones should be even better. I wouldn't spend R18k on the receptionist's PC, but for a Dev? R18k is what, a week of programming hours? Less?
