Third party re-skinning applications should flourish with Windows 8. A large % of users wants a look and feel more in line with Windows 7 so that creates a market for the likes of Stardock. WindowsBlinds (http://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/) should make a strong comeback as a favourite application (this always saves the day when MS gets it wrong).

Do not forget Rainmeter and simple Windows Themes

Yup - I remember when Win95 came out, there was a similar industry that popped up around providing Win3.x launchers for that - people couldn't handle that their apps were now in the start menu or on the desktop, uncategorized. And like that, people will get over it too - old habits die hard.

I Call BS, weill either that or the people that bought em where moron's Program manager was still in Windows, even up to XP Days. All you needed to do was change the SHell from explorer.exe to porgman.exe

I like windows 8 ... after bringing back the start button ... disabling the charms bar ... disabling some of the hot corners ... making sure I never see the tiles.

Now hopefully 8.1 will do something abot the flat look. Explorer can also use some enhancements. I miss my file preview on the left pane.

Otherwise the OS is pretty rock solid.

Windows 8 must have been one of the biggest disappointments from Microsoft ever.

Hell, I even liked Windows ME more, and that was utter crap!

You have NO idea - ai! the moans, and long faces and dark looks I got - worst part was that I did it just before going off to Jhb for a couple of days.

Probably the moron part. IIRC progman came up with a blank unpopulated window, and you had to populate it manually, and stuff made with the later installshield only populated the start menu, not the progman (I have vague memories of customers complaining about this from apps I wrote back in the day). So you needed some kind of 3rd party help to keep the old program manager working like the new stuff.

Imagine if win8 had an app "startbutton.exe" you could run and it came up with a blank start button menu - people would be dropping $5 on an app that kept it working the old way.
