Microsoft Security Essentials Tanks Another Antivirus Test

So, what's the solution? I've been recommending MSE left, right and center as a decent safe & free solution, especially to non-technical folks that just want a no-fuss anti-virus.

Time to go back to AVG free?

I'm sticking with MSE....and no AVG Free for me, it's terrible!! Huge ad banners that urge you to purchase the full version, etc.

Funny yesterday I was having a problem with a government computer with up to date McAfee.
As I inserted my flash drive all of my folders started disappearing and then they re appeared as .exes.

Ran a MaAfee scan and and hour later it told me no threats found. Installed MSE and and it almost immediately picked up the virus and cleaned the pc.

That's all in your mind. These comparative tests don't lie. Security Essentials probably brainwashed you into thinking that it removed the virus. :)

MSE works great. I've stopped throwing money away at AV packages long ago and have had no problems since. Common sense, discipline and good operating procedures is the best defense anyway.

As Gary pointed out one cannot believe what the vendors that used to milk us dry come up with these days in their tests. MSE made a HUGE dent in their sales. It would not even surprise me if they start writing malware to attack MSE to make it look bad. Big enough money is at stake.

One question...

Were is Avast in this AV Test?

I use it and damn its very good.

I've had viruses a couple of times in my life.

Only once on my pc/notebook though. And that time I ran something I knew was dodgy.
