Microsoft stops workers from buying Apple devices

What's the big deal and how is this news? If it was your own money then by all means complain. But when your company is paying for it, then they can dictate what you can and cannot buy with it. Why would MS spend it's own money for their employees to buy a competitor's product?

I'm confused... so if you're an apple employee, you're not allowed to use ms office, sharepoint, develop in C# etc? if your employees aren't even willing to use your own products, perhaps you should be asking "why" rather than forcing them to stop... :)

Well that would depend on Apple's policy, but your example is a little different. Apple doesn't have products to compete effectively with Office, Sharepoint and C#. The issue here is the choice afforded to each individual which is funded by the company, as opposed to a choice made during a management decision that affect all individuals within the company.

If they were providing their employees with a cellphone allowance, they're well within their rights to say that they may not buy an Android or WP phone.

Apple is not the enemy you twits. MS makes software for OSX!

If they consider Apple as the enemy they should stop making Office for OSX, which would be stupid.

Microsoft should focus on what they do best and make SOFTWARE! Why is there no Office for iOS yet?

Apple devices can be a perfect platform for MS to thrive on.

I say, "get the monkey out of the office-chair."

That brings up another point. If the developers are not allowed to buy Apple products how can they create Apple related software seeing that you need a Mac to compile & publish iOS software.

Or are they gonna share the ones they have between the departments?

I thought the article mentioned using company allowances issued to individuals  Obviously when it comes to development, it then becomes a management decision and not an individual one.

Aaaarh my bad, I did not click and go read the original sources, one would think that they would copy such important information when they post extracts.

Yeah this is pretty obvious. The loophole in this is the MS Mac division. Unless of course they're all running Hackintosh's, though I doubt it.

Now how would you feel if you're receiving customers at reception and the reception lady gets a call on her iPhone.

What's the first thing you gonna think? Why is she not using a Nokia Lumia 800, or another Windows Phone?

Standard company practice.

If its her private phone, she can still buy it and use it, Microsoft can not tell people not to buy iPhones for personal use, but I think they countered this already with http://techcrunch.com/2010/07/21/every-microsoft-employee-gets-a-free-windows-phone-7-handset/

The new rule is about buying an Apple product with company funds.

With company funds, obviously you can not support the enemy with company funds. Good Microsoft.

But im sure you wouldnt mind if apple buys your products would you?

one more Microsoft employee not buying apple means one more Microsoft product sold. Meaning stats are up and there are lot of ms workers

Just shows, even MS are not confident enough in their own devices. :D

Following that failed demo I can understand why. :D

"Microsoft stops workers from buying Apple devices with company funds."

Non issue, but gets a click count.

Makes sense. I'm not sure why Sales, Marketing, Services, IT, or Operations Group employees would ever need to buy Apple products with company funds but iOS and OsX developers would definitely need to - what division would they fall under?

Enemy? Microsoft develops OsX products like Office.
