Microsoft Surface Go vs Apple iPad

Microsoft recently unveiled its new Surface Go, aimed at the tablet-PC market.

The portable and efficient device is set to compete directly with Apple’s iPad lineup, specifically its new 9.7-inch iPad.

Both of those are competing with Chromebooks in schools and failing dismally. As a tablet though the iPad is far ahead with much more apps than the barren wasteland of the Windows store.

Yes, but the microSDXC slot makes me tend to go for the Surface Go, you can pop a 256GB card in there.

Another issue remains Microsoft's less than stellar reputation when it comes to hardware reliability.

This operating system configuration locks the system to Microsoft Store apps, but still retains the features of Windows 10

This would immediately kill the Microsoft tablet for me, good thing they allow upgrade to home for free. The MS side lacks apps

Yes, but you have the whole of the Windows ecosystem, including iTunes.

You have most of Microsoft’s essential apps on the iPad, including MS Office, oneNote, OneDrive. The biggest difference is how you interact with the device on an OS level.

Edit: And you have iTunes as well :)

Yup, iOS only added a (nerfed) file manager in 2017.

Nice review - too bad it's for naught. Microsoft Surface isn't available in South Africa and I don't foresee them changing that anywhere in the near future....

yeah that made me wonder why they wrote this article. hope they do bring it here.

and the Surface Go will also be available with 8GB of RAM (four-times more than the Apple iPad).
It is because Win10 with built-in "MS Telemetry" is four-times slower on 4GB RAM than Apple on 2GB RAM. :)
