Microsoft tablet crashes during presentation

It's not a big deal. The new offline Google Maps app crashed 5 times during their presentation 2 weeks ago. No one thinks the app isn't going be decent

If the Xbox 360 is anything to go by then Microsoft knows how important timing is. Yea it had a massive defect, and they probably knew about it, but had they launched later, they would not have won this round of the console wars.
Innovators have no problems with timing. Followers do ...

Simple solution though, have a guy doing the exact same thing, if it fails switch the projector to his

I actually watched the whole presentation. I cringed when that happened. BUT, when he realized nothing could be done, he walked to his little podium-stand-thingie and got a new one. He had a backup, he continued...and he stayed very nervous throughout the rest of his presentation. :D

yeah.. big deal  considering that it's the final prototype and was meant to show of a basic function.. surfing the net.

You know Apples Newstand right? That's in a fully functioning iOS version that's available is buggy/****ty/junk and has been ever since they introduced it, regardless of updates.

EDIT : I haven't tried their passcode bug in iOS recently - I'm hoping that was at least attended to the updates? Horrific if another bug is simply ignored and being shipped out

Everyone knows this was rushed by Microsoft. That is why the didn't clarify the specs; why they didn't set any pricing and why they wouldn't let journalists use the device in the "hands on" afterwards.

The point of this presentation was to make Microsoft part of the conversation surrounding tablet computers for the next 6 - 12 months and they've accomplished exactly that.

Why didn't he just reboot it the first time he noticed that it was not responding?

You would think that they would have a plan in place for this type of thing now that it has happened several times already.

There should be a guy standing off to the side with a spare unit ready to hand it to the guy.

He should have a plan in place that if it stops responding to immediately reboot it, etc.

How many more times are they gonna embarrass themselves in this way? :D

They had a plan in place. The plan was to swop the pad for another ;)

To show Netflix?

:o. Watched the entire announcement the other day. This guy handled the situation terribly, this could have gone almost unnoticed had he just calmly continued his talk walked over to the podium, took the other tablet and continued to show Netflix. Heck forget about showing Netflix, continue to talk about the design /applications or something else. :o

I think with the video cams rolling on the screen, we could all see something wasn't working ... and had we seen him walking over, we could have guessed. End result the same really :P
