if someone doesn't buy Windows, we can safely assume they won't buy byproducts like Ofiice.

So how does MS pull money off this pirate?
 
Well milo i would agree that pirating i do not think for music and mp3s impacts the industry to much but i do believe pirating games and windows/office hurts microsoft badly because if we could not pirate those 3 things we would be forced to buy them and i am sure 1 in 3 pirates would buy the stuff :)

In saying that microsoft makes more than enough money to ensure everyone who has a stake in the company lives a life i could only ever dream about so it's not doom and gloom but microsoft being greedy :).

Again if microsoft can drop prices in Asia because of piracy why do they not do it world wide?

I assume, the only reason they dropped the prices for asia, was due to worlds highest piracy stats. No wonder, alone china's population reaches over 1.3 billion. But ya, you are right. why drop prices in asia and not world wide.

Not to long ago, I think 10/11 people were convicted in a microsoft piracy case in china. Some big fish got cought.

To say that MS supports piracy is not too far from the truth....

MS number one goal is to dominate the IT industry; to this end they are prepared to not charge, or reduce their prices, for certain products - think of IE. If MS were to make a 100% piracy proof version of software, which I'm sure they could, then they would force all the pirated versions of MS products to convert to another product - this they don't want.

MS knows the importance, and value, of having MS on every desktop and will not want to surrender that dominance for the price of a few Vista licenses....

As we all know Microsoft has recently released their second quarter earnings and they did very well: $4.7 billion, or 50 cents a share, on revenue of $16.36 billion.


Shame how does microsoft continue to stay open with 4 billion profit a quarter :p, damn i would shut down my company with that piss poor excuse of profit. I would be crying heavily about piracy because let's be honest here and say 4 billion a quarter is chump change.

That's it, I'm pirating 7.... no way I'm paying more than R600 bucks for the basic version when they are making these figures.

Guess maybe now some people are starting to see the obscene amount of money microsoft make and might not get that worried about pirating of windows and office hey. Screw microsoft cause they will screw you in a heart beat :p.

You are right I'll buy it ;)

But honestly I don't have a problem with pirating... but, as with everything there is a limit, if you love something and can afford it then buy it.
 
No it's that attitude that has companies like microsoft, adobe etc charging extreme pricing for their software.

If it is not 1.2k for the best version i will pay for the version and pirate the best one, microsoft still make their billions and i do not feel ripped off :) Win win.
 
I would have replied to this thread, if I weren't to busy writing my week's acquisitions to disk..
