Don't you guys think if there would be less software piracy the prices would drop?
The Effects of software piracy impacts the entire global economy. Believe it or not, its a fact. Alone in 2008 economists indicated that software piracy cost the industry round about $52 billion.

Edit:
This I still have to say. South Africa has the lowest software piracy rate in Africa, but Zimbabwe has the highest in the world. :D

Congratulations, your dad has a big business... wtf has that got to do with anything? I'm saying that, from your posts above, you seem to be a little ignorant. Big companies are smoking the people with their ridiculous prices just for brand name which, imo, is not worth the tom. I do spend money on expensive stuff every now and then, but I still think it's a rippoff. M$ fcked up with vista and now they wanna charge crazy prices for their fckup, is that fair?

Actually believe this or not piracy actually adds alot to the worlds economy alot more so than people who are losing out on money like microsoft, music and movies people. Let me explain.

Nobody pirates windows and microsoft makes trillions, shares holders are super rich.

someone decides lets make windows available to download, you then get torrent sites, news server, p2p networks all of which create jobs. then you get websites for all the pirated goods and this spawns more jobs. So think about how many people are employed and make money off piracy. i could go into more detail but i would imagine you get my point.

So you can say what you like but companies who rip others off, deserve to be ripped off. Simple as that.

Erm ok rich kiddo. first of all how much do you think it costs microsoft to copy windows vista onto a cd? a few rand? not more I would say. They make enough money out of original cds. I buy levis jeans of the black market so yes I would do that its cheaper and the same quality. With regards to piracy it actually makes Microsoft richer, lets see they probably have a share or 2 in every anti viruz company? not to mention that these companies probably create the viruz themselves - if they didn;t then they wouldn't be in business. so long term microsoft creates a whole industry out of the pirate sector. torrent sites need staff, companies selling blank dvd's need to make a living and they probably got a monopoly share in all of this.
They encourage piracy , stop kidding yourself.

sigh once again you don't get it. Big companies have legal issues when it comes to software, this is where Microsoft gets the most of its money from, the rest of the customers is jam on the bread. I will not be surprised if they make more money out of us via the illegal gateways that open then the actual customer that goes and buy his original copy.
 
Dude you get just do not get what we are saying and i fear no amount of explaining will help but i will try one last time.

Microsoft make billions selling windows, piracy just hurts their back pocket is all, it is not like microsoft will fold and windows will disappear i think you fail to understand just how much microsoft make off windows, then you have office which makes them mega bucks as well.

Dude think to yourself what happened if piracy ended, think about the impact it would have on the world, then once you have thought this through you will come to see piracy has its place in the world.

Do you think if microsoft was not pirated we would be getting windows and office so cheap? what would stop them charging 3-10 times as much? we would be forced to buy it to work on our pc's. To me you sound like a rich kid who thinks paying 1k for a pair of jeans means something and often these kinds of people will always tell their friends and family just how much clothing cost as if people will bow before them and suck their pinkie toes :p. Your the reason they charge so much for their clothing and what not because the status symbol is more important than the fact your getting ripped through your A hole.

If your happy to go through life paying a kuk load for stuff because you think the more expensive it is the better it is then good for you, i personally cannot stand being ripped off.

Never said more exspensive is better. And why are you whining so much about the kuk prices on clothing? The reason for the high prices are because Brand name clothes mostly get imported. If a pair of puma gets sold in europe for 80euro, why should it be sold here for R200? So please dont blame my soul for that.

O the clothing thing i am just as an example of why companies think they charge a fortune for something that costs them next to nothing to make like microsoft :).
