Microsoft to Kill Pirated Windows XP Professional

Well yes according to them but within myself i feel i am not. I do not really care what microsoft think, i know when i am being ripped off and i know that when i use vista and xp that i have a cd key and did infact pay for it, i also know within myself i did not let the microsoft machine rip me off. So while microsoft may think what they like i feel better about myself knowing in a way i paid for vista :p and i own windows xp fully :).

I will do the same with windows 7 if need be. Microsoft know this but they know there are many people who will buy ultimate so i say fine let those people get ripped off. Also do not think because i am windows fan i am a microsoft fan.

a vista home key can be used to install vista ultimate?

Compared to xp vista is a legend :)

Compared to windows 7 vista sucks!!!!! hehe but windows 7 exists partially because vista was a failure so it has been good for something :). Now get some decent pricing and wham microsoft have what i think is the best OS around with windows 7.

By far microsoft's greatest OS :).

It is not pre-cracked, it is a laptop version and some laptops cannot connect to the net so there is no protection :p, milo you missed the point though and that was i felt the price of vista is a rip off and thus i will buy the OS but not pay 2-3x as much so i can get corel working. Surely programs should work on all version event he home versions which was not the case. I do not remember struggling to get programs to run on xp home but on vista home i struggle only to find they run fine on ultimate. I had a dell "laptop" :p

Windows Vista isn't the best OS but not the worst. Windows ME OMG THAT!

However personally I do not like Vista at all, not matter how much makeup you put on a pig it is still a pig.

Windows 2008 and Windows 7 I am starting to like!

Yup aqua now windows 7 fanboy comments :p, only thing is linux okes now have very little to say about windows 7 to put people off and maybe i was wrong for defending it so much . i actually must admit something i loaded vista onto a normal 7200 as my back up and OMG it does not run well hey. I loaded windows 7 on the same drive and the difference is remarkable. I can understand now why people were moaning about the performance. Vista i can see now were it went wrong and i could not see it before in as much as the performance is shocking on slow hdd's.

Anyways vista is a distant memory but i still loved it :p, bring on windows 7 dammit!!

Its very naive to think if Windows sold for less they'd sell more copies. It doesn't work that way, there's a price it needs to sell at which is determined by many things we have no access too. So to be keyboard financial officers and claim more people would buy it if it was cheaper is rather short sighted. People will buy Pirated DVD's for R70 when the retail version is R99, I've seen it happen.

People will always find something to complain about, and whatever reason that is, it will be justification for them to pirate. Vista was too expensive they said, especially cause it was not so good. Now Windows7 is brilliant, but way too expensive even though it will likely come in at the same price as Vista.
No one forces you to buy Windows7, planning on pirating it because of you feel you're being ripped off an example of poor reasoning. You don't have to buy or use Windows7.

If indeed we say a game lasts 20 hours but an OS for years, then it stands that we should pay more for the OS no? Think about it, why should you pay R800 for the OS especially when you have no idea how they come to the price. How are you getting to R850 or any amount for that matter?

Dude if Windows 7 cost anywhere between R99-R1500 I would make a plan and buy it. However having 6 different versions is ridiculous and home premium is useless (no domain support, FFS) if you really want to do anything.

Shock please dude your the naive one here, thinking windows should sell for 2.5k is rubbish and you know it.

Xp was home and pro, home was roughly 800 bucks and pro around 1.2k, seemed fine back then why all of sudden did they release 6 different packs of windows at different pricing?

What happened to that pricing? i will tell you:

MICROSOFT got greedy and hired a bunch of monkeys for marketing who thought 6 different versions would not confuse the public and would end up making them tons of money, the net result everyone pirating ultimate because they can see microsoft ripping everyone off.

So your saying microsoft would not sell more and get pirated less if they charged a fair rate? what do you base this on? your own thinking or do you have some proof?

Windows 7 home and windows 7 pro, 800 and 1.2k bring it on!!!

Lino majority of users can live without domain support which was fine then you buy pro which was only a little bit more, the difference between the top microsoft vista and the bottom is like 1.5k.

Why are we complaining about high prices? do you think every dick tom and harry has 2.5k to spend? no but i know people would spend 1.2k because thats a decent price.

Your the naive one thinking that expensive products do will get pirated just as much.

Think about a nike shirt at edgars that sells for 350 bucks, flippin expensive right? you can buy a replica for 90 bucks, now had nike sold that same shirt for 100 bucks they would have had a sale.

Its basic logic that the more you charge the less you sell. The packaging does not cost more, the whole OS is there and the key determines what you get. So by selling ultimate for 3x as much they are making a fortune while ripping everyone off. How does someone not get that?

Good point. That's why we should be able to keep our old XP or move to Ubuntu if we're not happy. Don't pirate MS products, just don't buy them.

Agreed completely. Could not have said it better myself.

Must just add though not having domain support sucks (For us with servers it does:D)

That is why I am grateful that Linux exists.. I'lll be lost! :)

Hey I may be very fond of Server 2008 *Trying out R2, can't wait* and Windows 7 but at my soul I am a linux man.

Which reminds me in an hour time to install Beta 9.04 Ubuntu

Funny how they can sell windows dirt cheap in asian countries and then shock can still us they would not sell more, why then would they try sell it so cheap down there? because piracy is epic in asia.

I will carry on making the huge amounts of money I make utilising the OS you do not like all the while not being naive and ignorant about the dangers online and utilise the correct software for that.

Fifteen years computing and one virus on windows 3.1.1 does not call for an immediate use of some strange OS that does not support ANY of the applications I require to make the above mentioned huge amounts of cash. :)

In reality I could not really care what system plays my movies, runs my applications, music and anything else I need - as long as it it works out the box and there is no "tweaking" necessary.

Unfortunately for you that happens to be Vista.

I will admit however I am moving to a Linux server to utilise PHP going forward and due to the competitive nature of the costs.

Linux as a home OS going forward... maybe in 2045 when they reach some kind of standard to UX interface ect.... at least by then I am sure VIsta will run on the normal house hold pc. :)

errm vista does run a normal house pc bud, its called windows 7 and i suggest you try it :p

Just jest. There is nothing wrong with Windows Vista contrary to all the propaganda. In fact I love it when people say Windows Vista is unreliable, unstable slow and rubbish, because ultimately their ill-informed opinion will never compare to my practical experience with the OS.

I will purchase W7 when it is released and works on the average household computer :D
