Hi Guys,

Very soon we will be moving to Midstream Ridge and I would like to find out more about the fiber available as well as your experiences in order for me to make the correct choice.

So I know that MTN Supersonic as well as Telkom fiber are both available in Midstream Ridge. The question is which is better and which ISP is most recommended for the estate.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had Supersonic (SmartVillage) While I was living there, had the 10Mbs Uncapped and it was ok during off-peak times, slowed down to being almost unusable over peak times.... Upgraded to 20Mbs when we moved to the older part of midstream and it's a lot better.

Any News Now That MTN Took Over Smart Village?
What Are The Lines Speeds & Quality?
I am Thinking Of Getting The 100Mbps/100Mbps Package.

Just keep this in mind:

"MTN’s Smart Village fibre service was ranked as the worst broadband service, placing it lower than ADSL, VDSL, and LTE connections."

https://mybroadband.co.za/news/broadband/216830-best-and-worst-fibre-providers-in-south-africa.html

The feedback that I get from the clients in Midstream Estates is unfortunately that the name change did nothing to improve their service.

Also, Telkom is AFAIK only available in the Midstream Estates side, in Midstream Ridge it is Supersonic or nothing, unless you go the LTE route.

While you are at it, you can also start planning on a way to extend your Wi-Fi network to the upper level, if you are moving into one of the many double storey houses there.

Best way would be to get Supersonic to pull an Ethernet cable for you to the upper level, and then just connect a Wi-Fi router to it.

WE have a 100Mbps Supersonic connection at the office, and it is working well. It is relatively affordable as well.

We have 200Mbps Openserve at home, and it is excellent.

If you have Supersonic and Openserve you should be well covered.

Yes, but MyBB is in the same building as Supersonic in Midstream Estates, so you can just yell at them through the window.

OK, Thanks. Can one get Supersonic only from MTN or can one use someone like Cool Ideas as an ISP?

We might be able to drop me a mail on paul at cisp.co.za

So Smart Village is now supersonic, MTN company, and the supersonic fibre has been opened for other ISPs (currently only Vodacom jumping to get some ISP subscriptions from this).

I have had my fair share of issues with Smart Village (2 years ago for about 3 years). Then it was stable. Had some issues with supersonic when they took over, but the last week it has been stable again.

Thanks for the feedback, considering that at Midstream Ridge that is the only available fiber solution I have no other option I guess. LOL.

Sadly you don't ... you can get Vodacom as Fibre ISP (you can chat to the guys at Chatz Midstream), but you were still be reliant on the supersonic infrastructure.
Midstream proper has it better, as there is openserve fibre, with whatever ISP you want on top.

All of that being said, I am running 10Mbps up and down, uncapped, and get full speed 99.9% of the time

Well, that is at least positive. Thanks for the feedback.

We are busy onboarding with Sonic, so you'll be able to sign up for our bandwidth over fibre too.

There will be No FUP.

Just finalising and will be able to provide pricing
