Hi there I hope someone can help me.
I do IT support for a couple of companies. I have been reading up on mikrotik.
What all can I do with it? Is it possible to do the following? View users IP's, the amount of data the use and the websites they visit? Is this possible? The other thing is, it should prob be able to block sites like youtube and facebook? What other features does it have?
Any replies much appreciated :)

Mikrotik's Wiki is pretty comprehensive, check User Management section.

I would think your customers would expect you to be a bit more resourceful.

Yes it can and so much more :) You might also want to look at something like Smoothwall or IPCop if you have an old / dedicated PC lying around. You can also load RouterOS on a virtual PC and play around with it for 24 hours to check what it can do. I don't know what kinda hardware you support at the companies, but for a relative small company I would go for Mikrotik else go the Cisco route. I have a couple of Mikrotik units that I use and it's more than enough for my needs as a home user. Best of luck.

mikrotik and Ubiquiti

theres alot that can be done with the equipment i.e how far apart they are going to be
i currently have a 27km link. :)

We're primarily using MikroTik routers at my company, because Cisco units are very expensive and the cheaper Cisco units usually don't work very well.
So far the Cisco units that the ISP's (both Mweb & Neotel) supplied us for our ADSL & NeoBroadband Fiber connections has given us lots of issues, where as our MikroTik routers just works flawlessly.

I'm running RouterOS on a VM at home.

The only thing that MikroTik needs is an ADSL modem :D

You can buy a mikrotik router board or you can buy the software and run it on a small pc.

If you are already this confused just about getting it....then you are going to have a very hard time learning.

YOu really need to put more effort in YOURSELF instead of expecting all the answers on a platter.

Finding out where to buy them is only a Google away. Mikrotik is the brand, there aren't any others.
