howzit all,

okay, dilemma that i am facing, I am on the market for a run around car...My mind which is sensible has me going to VW and getting a Polo 1.6 Comfortline, and my heart has me rushing for a 2008 Mini Cooper S, both cars have something that I am looking for and something I am not looking for,

The Polo = interior is a huge leap from polo's of old, but end of the day paying R180k odd for a polo doesn't sit right with me
Ze Mini =128kw :) thats all i say, at my price range it would be a second hand and chances re the motorplan is nearing its end and the insurance will be a tad steep...

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

option 3, a hyundai i20 :D save yourself R20k and you get a new 1.6 :p

Yes, I have driven the guilietta.

The whole time I was waiting for it to break down.

did it?
The new Alfa's are damn nice, and are pretty good quality as well.
The mito even holds its 2nd hand value quite well

what is the budget you are looking at? I got myself a cooper s 2 months ago, and am in love with the car... way too much fun to drive...

That is what years of Alfa's being electrical rust buckets does. I love Alfa's but theres no way in hell I'd ever spend money on one untill they can prove that their cars LAST.

Whatever you decide on, DO NOT GO FOR THE POLO!!!! The tsotsis love them!!! Rahther look at a new Ford Fiesta, they are a better buy for me.

I recently bought the new Polo (2010/2011 model) for my wife about 1 month ago - 1.6 Comfortline Tiptronic (she insisted on automatic). Really neat inside. Exterior is also awesome. A pleasure to drive. The only (very small) issue I have with the car is that the rear of the car could have been designed better. The front is awesome, aggressive, neat, while the rear is just way too plain and boring.

The Polo is also a chick's car. I wouldn't want to be driving it around long term, unless its the Polo GTI, or unless you do up the car with some aftermarket sports kit, add some rims and spoilers, etc. Then it would look awesome. But that's me. Some people don't really care either way - a car is a car.

You also need to think practically. How old are you? Are you married? Do you plan on having kids anytime in the next 3-4 years? Can you afford another bigger car/sedan at a later stage? You also need to get insurance quotes on the different models to see if you can afford it. I'm pretty sure insurance on the Mini is gonna be at least double or even triple that of the Polo. They are 2 different classes of vehicle.

When it comes to girls/relationships, go with your heart ... when it comes to cars/money, go with your head

Why not look at a fairly new 2nd hand car? Buying new really is daft. All nice to drive off the show room floor, but at a cost.

Not to mention you could probably get something a lot nicer than a polo or cooper. No offence but they both chick cars. :p

Buy a Toyota buddy:)

If you can get an extended motorplan on the Mini then thats the best option:)
