Mini UPS for Internet

Bought 1 of these units for someone

https://www.takealot.com/10400-mah-mini-ups-router-ont-cctv-backup-power-supply/PLID73772698

Also working like charm after loadshedding it dropped 1 Light on the display powering a Vuma ONT and a Mikrotik hAP ac2.

Batteries can be replaced it uses 4 x 18650 cells

Best option is a Ratel, Gizzu or Netogy if you want more ports to power more devices
Could you verify the capacity of the batteries inside? Are they labeled as 2600Mah?

Thanks everyone for the expert advice - The Gizzus look great but quite pricey though. I have found this one on Takealot, think someone above has referenced it as well

Looks like this will power 9V and 12V devices, and the reviews are decent enough - any last minute suggestions?

My colleage got this from GeeWiz and he gets 6 hours with same setup, 9V and 12V devices

I have two of these devices, one powering the ont and the other the wifi router. Eskom power was out for 1.5 days, it kept the internet on from 22h00 till about 4am the next morning. I then switched to an alarm battery till 6h00 thereafter ran the generator, after getting permission from the neighbours. I now have solar, so have no issues at the moment.

Blue wrapper around them, will tell you when mine's life start to suck.
Hard to tell if they are lying about capacity with 18650 cells. Even if they are labeled, I have seen many that are incorrectly labeled.

I have a charger (LiitoKala Lii-500) that can do a discharge/charge and measure capacity.

I am just wondering if they aren't actually the same capacity:
The casing looks similar.

One review here said his 8800mah unit lasted longer.

Maybe he has a defective unit though.

All you need is one dud battery and that 10400 becomes 7800 so yeah possible.

Long term, I did not buy it for the batteries. bought it for the electronics. Have 3500mAh's that I will pop into it when warranty or battery is done.

Cheaper to get a R650 for above than R1400.

Does one need to use protected or unprotected 18650 cells?

Guess you can get away with unprotected as its low V charge & discharge. Hence me planning to pop in 3500's

Edit:
Just checked my 3500 are protected so yeah don't know what they have in them.

sorry for the late reply been busy :X3: no markings on the cells i did open it because of the misleading advertisements on takealot selling it as 12000mAH others 10400mAH lol and a 2600mAH.

But so far so good would like to break the pack up and test cell capacity but its not mine :)

Yeah I also would like to test capacity but it would be a waste to do it on a new unit.

End of the day don't expect anything good if the unit cost R650 with 4 x 18650's
650/4 = 162.50
Excluding: Transport, electronic and plastic housing.

OEM must have used crap batteries else they not making any money

That works out to R2279 and it is not even close to as nice of a solution as the brush-less DC Xiaomi Smart Standing Fan 2 Pro which I bought for R2400 back in August (was thinking ahead :p)

More stock is expected by mid December according to Syntech.
Im commiting k@k hard when this thing comes in stock again. Joh the mosquitos had me up at 4am when they sang me the song of their people. I don't even want to joke about them, my hatred grows every night for them.

I don't mind the mozzies once I'm asleep, but we share a bed with 2 cats, and boy do they go into hunt mode when the mozzies sing. <-- not fun when a creature with daggers for nails run all over you.

So yes a fan is a must have :D

Keep in mind that the Xioami fan will run on full blast for 2.7 hours according to spec. I have not tested if one can run it at half speed for 4 hours. To keep it running on full blast for 4 hours, I may need to look at plugging it into a small UPS (with upgraded LFP battery). I think this will work. It is a DC fan so no need to run it from pure sine wave from what I can tell.

Another option that I thought of recently is to run a 12v DC fan from one of these Mini lithium ups units...

I want one of those Xiaomi's !!
They are back in stock btw.

Syntech should really start paying commission xD.

I watched as the quantity on Takealot sat at 51 from yesterday afternoon until this morning and then this morning I posted about stock on 2 threads and I watched as it went to 40 and then to 24 after I posted.

These things are selling like hot cakes.

Our Netogy 100W UPS is currently on special:

R999 is a bargain price.

I was going to buy two but my payday is only today so I missed the sale, will it go on sale again or is it better to spend a bit more on a Gizzu device?

New World has them for R1,099

Sales are done by our resellers and we have no say over what they charge. I just like to point out sales when I know they are a good deal.
