My domestic worker is paid R180 per day plus meals plus R15 per day for transport. I cant cope without her!

Domestic Helper Salary

What is fair to pay a domestic helper per day, if used once a week.
Also how many hours should they then work, per day?

Depends on what they do?
But i pay R120 a day. ( and only because i can not give more for now. If i get a raise Maria also gets a raise.)

Whats a domestic helper? Like a worker but a care giver or something like that? Or the same as a domestic worker?

If its a domestic worker.. R100 a day.

... and working hours? My previous domestic insisted on coming in at 8am and leaving at 12pm. I would prefer she work till 3 or 4pm.

In the case of my domestic worker, it is from 08:15 to about 16:00 or 17:00, depending on how much work there is on the day.

That is half day. Then she can cet half the pay.
Mine works up until 3 or 4 depending on the amount of work sometimes she stays until 5.

I have one to clean our flat once a week (2 beds one bath), she asked for R100 per day but I feel that she travels really far and give her R120, she is very good and we are considering getting her twice a week. She works 7 - 3, not really sure as I only get home at 4 or 5, either way the house sparkles when i'm home.

For once a week I give her R500.00pm (doesn't matter the hours nor 4/5 week month) - as long as the work is done.

Also supply food (or she simply takes ...)

+10 if she leaves at 12 and my house looks like that i will still pay R120 a day.

Ye, hours don't really bother me... also she looks for stuff to do. Like if she cant do washing she will clean out my cuboards etc.

I'm curious as to how this conversation with her went: "Er, some guy on the net reckons we don't pay you enough. So we have to fire you. Sorry, not our fault. The internet man suggested we do many, many things, instead we're going to ignore that all and just fire you. It's easier for me and I get to blame the internet-man as well. So I feel fine about it"

LOL ;)

It is a blessing to find an employee (any employee, not only domestic workers) with some independent thinking and innovation.
