Mint addresses Ubuntu Unity challenge

Been using Mint for around 2 months now. Now entirely happy with it. Cannot get wine to work, no kdrc :(

Does it have it's own repo? How up to date is it's repo?

What a crap article.

Don't worry we are quite fimiliar with Alastair's work. :) The OS he use is about as ***** as his articles.

Isn't there a Windows thread or something for you 2 to go comment in?
Or hasn't the complaining about Metro UI started yet?

Back on topic:
This seems quite interesting. Should I wait for the final or is the beta stable enough to use now?

I'm using Debian Squeeze (stable) for my Linux needs. I have no need to upgrade yet.

Mint addresses Ubuntu Unity challenge

Fans of Ubuntu Unity are few and far between. Linux Mint provides a simple alternative.

I dont understand how you can say fans are few and far between. Of the many forums I have read, and people I have spoken to, I would say that the split is closer to 50/50. I for one enjoy Unity and in fact find myself becoming annoyed at other window managers. I think youre being a little biased.

phew... glad to hear it is not just me. I personally love Unity; and in 11.10 the visual tweaking has made Unity look great

I installed the full release in a virtual machine today to test it out. Seems as awesome as all mint releases! Really a great OS so far, feels very refined and professional-looking.

I like Unity...I got it on two machines. Tried Mint 12 but I still think Unity is better

Great :) Will download it tonight. While I'm at it I might as well re install windows 7, its become slower over time (like 2+ seconds delay after clicking on the start button before anything happens)

You know, really, drama queens, you don't have to run unity or gnome3 on 11.10........ You can log in with gnome classic and it will look just like the older releases.

Using Unity for a while now and have not as yet found a compelling enough reason to move to Mint.
Time is the biggest issue, Time and testing.

The biggest advantage for me with Unity at present is workspace, you have as much space as can possibly be crammed onto the monitor without actually going full screen on a program.

I just wish I could add a few more quick shortcuts to the top bar (including a desktop switcher) and find the sidebar to be a little clumsy but once you get used to it (and modify it to suit yourself), not really all that bad.
