Mirror backup doe Windows 8 wanted

Ok, I turn to the forum again for finding software that does what I want it to do. So far I found Karens Directory printer and Filebot here.

What I need:
A easy to use backup program

What I have and need:
I have Windows 8
My laptop has a C and D drive (Problem with some backup programs)
I need a mirror backup of the files for the above 2 drives (Why?... I shuttle my backup drive between my laptop and media player so it cant be zipped or encrypted)


Oi, I hope someone has some advice!

If you willing to pay, I swear by Acronis True Image home edition. It can mirror drives, back up individual files etc. You can set up specific scedules.

It has a software " test" zone too.
 
I also like Acronis. Its expensive but has the most features and probably the better support.
I think ive recovered about 5 systems with no issues from their backups.

I suggest doing a monthly cold backup to be on the safe side.
And daily hot backups.
The compression works pretty well but does slow things down a bit depending on your machine.
 
Cobian Backup version 11 (Gravity)

Works like a charm, very reliable. I've used it for both large and small backups.

Got a 700GB backup to my NAS which fires off every Saturday night. I use a differential backup which means that only changed files get backed up.

And its free!

I can recommend Paragon's software
 
Windows 8 has a image creation tool built in albeit not well advertised. If you don't want to go third party. Try that.
 
Thanks Pho3nix and Mike Smith. I know the built in Windows 8 file history utility too well. Burnt my fingers with it, badly. It is a common problem if you Google it. Had to reset my laptop only to find out that File History duplicated folders and files between my C and D drive. I had to drag drop, restore them one by one. My next shock was that is appended all the file names with date and time. So, instead of having (file name.docx) I had (file names.docx 2014 10 25 1345 UCT) . Do this for thousands of folders and files and you can understand why Google is littered with angry complaints about Windows 8 File History) . Thanks all, I'll investigate your suggestions.

I never used that. Only ever used the system image option which works great.
My bad. I thought you want to image your drive.

Geez I was also mentioning the system image tool. For file backups, go with Acronis. It has never let me down. Or maybe just throw all your folders onto Skydrive?
