Mnp

Since the switch only takes place between 22h00 and 23h00 if I remeber correctly you are going to have to wait just a little bit longer.

if you apply for port during the morning, you will be switched by 11 pm the same day!

I read in MNP rules that the network or service provider that you are porting to MAY charge you...is this correct?

If correct, then does anyone have any details as to what those charges are?

I am aware that the subscriber will be financially responsible for the balance of the contract period with the old network or service provider, but what charges can the NEW network or service provider levy?

Cant comment on that here, i would advise you get in touch with the service provider you are wishing to port to to advise.

You have to get a new sim card for the new network - youn will probably pay for that. Then I am sure there will be a once off connection/activation fee to get you setup on the network. Just my thoughts - let's hope not but I am sure these 2 charges will apply.

Yep, that's what MTN told me. I'll see the total costs monday or so, but since i'm moving from a prepaid Voda number to a MTN contract , most of those costs will be "absorbed" by the contract itself [because you pay Activation + New Sim costs anyway on a new contract].

I'd wager total cost would be about R150-R200 getting activated at the provider you are moving TO. Then there's the costs at the provider you are moving FROM, which is primarily contract cancelling costs or the amount left over on your prepaid sim . I was told i better empty my prepaid sim as i will probably loose whatever credit i have on it when the port occurs....

Hey there guys

In terms of porting info I can't really help, you'll have to get hold of you SP

Just to let you know

..and i'm STILL waiting for MTN to port my number from Vodacom! Man this is slow going. Has anyone so far actually successfully ported their number [as in all done, not just filling in the forms] ?

It is really slow. I'm currently with MTN, but just changing SP's, NOT networks. I initially filled in the forms to request a Port last Friday, and I am still waiting...my old SP say that the request was actioned yesterday at about 2pm. But they also told me that there is an intermediary involved between the new and old SP's on the MNP system. My new SP say that they were told that there is 2 - 24 hour turnaround time...i think from the point that the old SP approves....what happened to the 1 hour story??? When i asked this, all they could tell me was that I must bear with them as the system is still new.

What a surprise...i just got a call from my new SP...porting request successful...i can collect my new ph...i assume i will be ported tonight.

Yea same here. I'm still waiting for them to simply approve my contract, nevermind the 24-48 hours before the sim is activated PLUS the MNP turnaround [probably another 24+ hours].

I told the shop guy if it's gonna take 2 weeks [which is starting to look that way] then he should tell me so and not tell me it only takes 1 day and then make excuses everyday....but he didn't want to admit to that either..

Where did you port to? I have a hunch some SPs are more prepared than others...

Porting from MTNSP to Autopage.

From what i heard...the original turnaround time was about 7 days, but then they came up with the MNP system that allowed it to take place within 1 hour. Guess there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out, and the SP consultants are still learning how it all operates.

Lets just hope that i do get ported tonight without any interuptions.

I am staying within MTN, so i don't think there should be any activation of the sim, etc...as i was told that i can use my old sim.

Good day,

Do you want to supply me with your details and I'll pass it on if it's with MTNSP

Porting from MTNSP to Autopage.

Is this process the same as porting to another network? ie, I go into Autopage and say I want to port my number from MTNSP to them and fill in the form? Sorry a bit ignorant with this bit of MNP.

Good day,

From Prepaid to Prepaid the process is very easy, from MTNSP to another SP the other SP will have to vet you and then the port will be done, if you going from MTN to Vodacom Autopage then they the process will be the same they'll have to credit vet you and then you should be A for away

Yes, its basically the same process as porting to another network...fill in Port Reuqest Form and new contract agreement. They do a credit check as for a new contract.

I've been told by Autopage that there are no costs involved...but also remember that my contract with MTNSP had expired, so I don't have to pay them any costs, and I'm staying within MTN. I didn't even have to get a new sim card...using my old sim. No activation cost, coz still with MTN.

But according to MNP Rules in an Autopage brochure, the rules don't govern porting between SP's within the same network...the processes and costs involved in porting between SP's (but within the same network) have been left up to each of the networks to define.

For me...it has thus far been the same process as porting between networks, without the additional sim & activation costs, etc.
