Mobile broadband package pricing comparison (July 2011)

MTN uncapped is nice....for downloads...but not for actual working...
maybe add the power your pc uses to download 24/7/31...

The amazing thing what MTN did to rip off their existing subscribers is instead of modyfying their existing 2GB package to the new specials they introduced a new one and called it a special. That way the existing subscribers still have to pay the normal price, so only new customers or existing customers who are due for an upgrade benefit. I phoned Nashua Mobile and asked them to change me from my existing contract onto one of the "new" one's and they said I can only go to a higher package and not a lower one even though the 2GB special and the 2GB top up packages are the same package but dirrerent price. Its on the MTN website as well.

That is typical, they will do whatever they can to get new business but if you are an existing subscriber they don't care. Mark my word I will be migrating to either CellC, 8.Ta (if ther coverage gets better) or vodacom. I will also leave Nashua Mobile when my contract is up in Jan. They can beg me and offer me a free iPAD or whatever they want I will not take the offer. I'm done with them. I hope other people who are tied into contracts and being ripped off will do the same and support the other service providers who are competitors and not followers.

What's the chance of cellphone data packages becoming cheaper? R10 for 10mb, R89 for 100mb etc. It's damn expensive.

+1000
Want to load 100mb or 200mb bundle. Should be like R25 or R50 at most!

Including MTN's 'uncapped' deal is fundamentally flawed. The headline refers to 'broadband' and by definition 128kbps is NOT broadband.

since we're working with promotions, how about Cell C's 2GB/150mins/150smses for R150 (sure there's some playing around to do with bundles and buying R50 airtime every week, but still). It keeps my gf happy since now she gets calls and smses instead of me just converting all my airtime to data all the time!:D

Another question: Why wasn't the 'sustainability' of these offers analysed? It seems Vodacom is offering deals at rates their rep has identified as 'unsustainable' not long ago?

Take note Jannie....why are you so quiet now ?

quote:
There may be something to be said for MTN’s “uncapped” feature (if you can tolerate speeds as slow as 128kbps), but Vodacom’s 10GB and 20GB packages don’t seem to be competing effectively at all.

maybe he still in shocked because of cellc 10&20 data products just after vodacom had there so called 43% price cut. R1499 For 10gig what stupid fool will fall for something like that

yea, I've been told that as well by the MTN rep. I dont have a contract yet, so I qualify. Its just another reason not to sign contracts at all. And I still cant bolt it on to a cellphone. Seems the cell-c type deals is the only way to go.

the Vodacom 2Gb Mofoya special still ends now end of July? Anybody has headsup what they will replace it with, or if it will continue?
Got some VC contracts coming to end next month, would like to take the 2Gb deal if it still exists, or of course VC can better.....
I know 8ta + Cell C has better pricing, but coverage (& usable speed) is an issue for where I need to use it.

As long as 8ta and CellC lacks coverage, VC and MTN still has a chance, and can still charge what they like.
