Mobile operators at odds over 2G and 3G shutdown

Bought my geriatric dad a R199 feature phone (Mobicell C1) from Pep this month.

It is 4G and with a color screen (1.77 inch), NOT 2G

Yes, they are coming in but 2G stuff is still in the sub-R150 market place.

Need to replace my aged S7 Edge and folk are telling me to get an Oppo A74 5g ?
Knowing nothing I need advice ?

3G can go first. 2G has distinct advantages in over-subscribed areas, especially during summer season, it allows for phone calls when 3G & 4G both collapse in a heap! Added to this is the myriad of things like security gates!

Also, those on low incomes can afford a basic feature phone at R119 or so, you'll never get a 4G device that low in price range!

Never ? It's getting pretty darn close, I suspect if you were to try the Chinese market you will find one.

Neither would I, 90% of the forum wouldn't likely buy it, not to say there isn't people who wouldn't. It seems however that only vodacom has the nokia 215 G4 any ways.
