Mobile users should automatically get cheapest prices

Spot on. I'm tired of paying 3x going rates on an old contract

But that will really hurt the profiteering - it's founded on 'wrong pricing' principles.

Thing is .... the networks usually confuse things with promos and bonuses and weird discounts at 3am while standing on one foot and only when speaking in Klingon...
How then does one determine the cheapest rate when these products have all been purpose-built to confuse the cr@p out of everyone?

LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!! Who are they going to find on Saturday? Like really!

By not choosing a network on the basis of a promo. Cell C have been pretty forthright with their basic rates.

If 1gb costs say R100 and 20GB R2000 then when someone uses 20GB they should not be charged R20 000 if they are OOB. They charge two customers a tenfold difference which is profiteering.

All networks have confusing options.
The only truly non-confusing option would be a single rate for all customers for calls and Data.
Any bonuses should apply to all people all the time, and not apply only to the same network, or parts of the night, or anything else that requires Deep Thought.
If a network doesn't have that, it's confusing (... but, ok ... that's just my opinion)

Yes, and you choose the network that has the lowest basic rate if that is what you are looking for. Bonuses, promos and specials are exactly that- meaning that they are not fixed value propositions. And it would be foolish to use those elements when determining the value of a package.

I disagree... cos your network is like your ISP, not your wife ... you don't need to commit.
Just throw away the SIM / choose another provider when a better option becomes available.
And if people are not doing this, they're losing out (...and also not driving competition, but that's another topic altogether).

So, bonuses etc HAVE to form part of the decision process when someone is looking for value, regardless of the restrictions.
But therein lies the problem ... it's all spaghetti when one does try to find the best value.
