Ok, so what I understand what you say I this.

Scenario A
Power goes off and ups goes on automatically and runs off batteries. Charger is off as no power feeds external charger. Power comes back up and everything connected on ups keeps running. External charger gets charged again.

My setup runs like this.
Power goes off. Switch mains, geyser and stove off. Switch fridge, freezer and microwave off by plugs. Power on ups and batteries run off up. When power comes back up, switch ups off, put mains and everything on again. I cannot run ups back into the feed without putting It off manually.

Ok looks good (I won't warn you about danger of backfeeding into plugs :( )

Every model different , the APC 700 XL i have the charger is integrated in the inverter ( no ways to disconect charger )
This ups is about 15 + years old :)
Ran it of a month with 100AH bateries ( Charges at 5A Limited , 27.7V Limited )
Then bought 300w of solar pannels inc 3 stage charge controller
Monitored it When Battery empty it charges 5 + solar charger till 27.7 volts then ups stopped charging
Solar charge till 28.8 then when current drop to 0.5A it switch over to 27.7 V
Solar and UPS share the 0.5 Amps

Fsk I know this is a very difficult concept to explain. The problem though only comes back to bite much later....
And I was not even talking Solar in those days..

I don't even know if I am reading stuff correctly here.....but yes...the blackout/load shedding thing has hit us.
People spending lot's of money on good UPS mean't for backup purposes. And modifying them.

Sure bigger batteries give loads of time to run TV's, Computers and so on.....Simulated Sine Wave are good for all that.

And really wanted to go sleep tonight...but I cannot let this go...

Eggsample ( intentional spelling)....You go to Mako/Game/Shifty Sam at the roadside. You need a UPS.
They sell you a UPS....RATED FOR ONLY SHUTTING DOWN COMPUTERS PROPERLY..

Not meant for work powering TV's and Modems and .....

South Africans adapt though...as always.

So we have a lot of people that have bought UPS. Modified to handle huge batteries. Like really lots of Ah.

So....wife is happy. Kids are happy. Eskom down but hey...at least we can see.

6 Months to a year from now I expect to see a flood of people replacing expensive SLA batteries...am I right or wrong. Time will tell.

True . This is one reason when I saw the charging method on this ups I got the solar to supliment
Now like myself I went and bought the cheaper silver calcium bateries , they need a little bit more voltage to optimum charge them (need to buy programing cable for solar controller end of month to fix that )
Now goto bed :)

Ok guys, I have a gut feeling the charger might be the one with the yellow on it called CSEpower. Anyone have any recommendations

Whatever you do don't go remove items blindly
If you let the smoke out you will never be able to put it back

There is a blue and brown cables that run onto the board where you plug in the cable that connects to the power socket. I will try and take clearer pics or make a video perhaps

Ok guys, I found a pcb layout on what needs to be disconnected. Anyone can confirm
http://www.deltaco.se/support/manual/ups-650_eng.pdf

Am I correct in saying that either the relay switch RY01 or current transformer CT1AX be removed. I had a look on the main board on the ups and this looks similar in the PDF, same principle basically.

It's got 5 black relay switches, CT1AX transformer, 32 pin IC CPU an I think the inverter transformer is the one with the white coating on.

That transformer is used for the inverter too
I have no power atm can't use pc :(
Dont just go disconect stuff
If this is similar diagram maybe disable charging by limiting the charge current . Someone else can also coment

Maybe disconnect one end of R14....that should stop any charging taking place.......

And then see if all still works (except charger).

You mean the small one. So what you saying we can maybe put in a resistor with next to nothing current and prevent if from charging, but getting the inverter to work at the same time as they on the same circuit.
