Before we got married, I told my wife I'd like her to stay at home and raise our kids.
Almost the same here... Wife was offered a post in the middle of nowhere, so I then asked her if she was keen on the above idea. We struggled a bit in the beginning, but it worked out well in the end.

So, I'm the only one working, and thus pay for (almost) everything. I EFT to her a set amount per month from which the only thing she needs to buy is groceries, the rest she does with as she pleases.
Wife has full access to our finances. She's the financial manager at home :p However... I remain the CFO !!! :D

I think the last time I saw my cheque card was last year some time, I don't even have a wallet! :D Whatever I need is usually bought over the internet and I don't need my card for that.

The only thing I'm hiding from her is that I've recently started saving/investing a large amount of our salary. So there's a slight lack of transparency, but since its not adversely affecting our lifestyle, I don't see it as a problem.
This is where we differ. We discuss and agree on all savings, investments, etc. Nothing is "hidden".

Good to hear, MickeyD. I likewise see marriage as all-in, nothing held back in any area. We've always had one joint account with full and equal access in all aspects of our common two-in-one-flesh life. We're a perfect team and balance sheet - I am Income and she is Expenditure. I can't imagine marriage any other way. ;)

24th legal year and still going strong! Still one thing left to do. We MUST open a bank account solely in her name and feed some cash into it... just in case something happens to me. Wife will then have some cash to tide her over until the legal side of things are settled.

spot on, sorted this out earlier. Capitec account with at least 3 months of expenses (until policies/GLC pays out - she is nominated beneficiary)

* just saw now, hit 1000 posts, thumb up! :)

We've become accustomed to only having one income source, so I honestly don't have a problem with her being a stay at home mother.

Yes. Same in our situation. She's studying part time as well.

There's no better feeling than coming home to a warm, cooked meal.

That and no-one raises young babies\toddlers better than their mother. I'm not a fan of crèche-daycare, my son is very friendly, goes to Moms&Tots and plays a lot in public parks with strange kids ( Botanic Gardens, People's Park, Mitchell )

It only counts if you've let him run around the "zoo" at Mitchells Park....
