More black staff, or else...

"The carrot is not working and the stick has to come out," he told MPs at the start of debate on his budget vote in the National Assembly.
Umm, what carrot? So far we just had a bunch of laws and fines. If that was the carrot part...then everybody hide quick.

Suck my banana Minister Mdladlana.

The heading should probably read:
More black staff, or else...you just might be productive.

If so many black people could do the job, they would be employed. It goes against the King report, the combined code, and the SOX prescriptions which states that only people with the necessary skills and knowledge as well as the necessary ethics should be employed in a company.
It is my personal experience that the best qualified and hardest working people in my office, are white or Indian with the exception of one black guy doing the work of his slacking co-workers.
I am most annoyed that there is no dedication to do what is best for the company, people take leave without completing their work. People refuse to their duties and hand it out for others to do. Some people spend the whole day on the phone.

I am gatvol of people without merit, black or white, being employed because of draconian labour laws.
If people are put in position, based on merit, it will be to the benefit of both blacks and whites. People will work hard when they feel they deserve the position based on their hard work, they will not when they feel it is given to them because they have more pigmentation.

It showed there was a large pool of qualified black people with the required combination - in terms of the Employment Equity Act - of formal qualifications, prior learning, relevant experience, and the ability to acquire skills to "do the job" within a reasonable time.

And all of them are already gainfully employed you moron.

Last year alone, 332 workers died in their places of work.

wtf? 7,500 were killed by aspirin in the US alone last year. In fact, medicine when taken as prescribed is the 7th leading cause of death in the world by some measures.

332 workers is a relatively low number for death in the workplace in our country, given our reliance on the mining and some heavy heavy manufacturing industries; and a workforce of 8? million.

More on topic-
the statistics telling us that there is a "large pool of qualified black people" belie the problem. The "qualified black people" exist. But their degrees are Affirmative Action Degrees. Affirmative Action degrees exist because it would be too politically incorrect to have 65% of all whites and Indians eventually graduating; but only 15% of all blacks who enter university graduating. Some people genuinely earn their degrees; but some people are awarded degrees based on historical wrongs.

Affirmative Action graduates enter Affirmative Action jobs; some build what amounts to an "Affirmative Action CV", from their formal qualification through their work experience and job placements.

Ostensibly it may seem that there is a large pool of qualified black south africans. In reality, many in this "large pool" lack the actual skills because their degrees are Affirmative Action degrees.

We have an election coming up soon, and those of us who care should be asking of each of the BEE partners how much have they contributed to the operation and is it inline with the wealth that they recieved for it. Further we should be doing this in public, so that the man in the street, and yes the township, will get to see the answers and also get a chance to ask these questions. Get the people thinking and the current BEE situation will change.

Well said.

So companies will suffer should they employ a large percentage of these qualified blacks, and only have a minority of people who have the neccessary skills.

I still stand by my statement - people will simply adapt and start their own small companies up. Those who have the skills and the will to push through, will survive, those without the skills won't survive.

Besides, it's more productive for a company to promote somebody who've started low and worked his/her way up through the ranks - and not just grab some whatnot off the street and put him/her in a managerial position - without any clue of what's going on or what need to be done.

This is true as well. Taking from Peter to give to Sipho makes everybody poor, and this is not sustainable. Think of a Ponzi scheme.

Job creation might take longer, but is sustainable.

My company employs 95% black people. I think we are safe.
