Tbh a few reasons why I have gone shotgun on the options, this is my 1st poll and i thought it would allow unlimited options and 2nd I wasn't sure there would be alot of response, so i just removed whatever the 10th option I had was and put other, also why I didn't really define budget or comfort in any real way.

So to give actual insight into my question. I drive the "Indian shitbox" some have referenced above and can honestly say its the most practical car I have driven, having come from 20+ year old cars previously. The cabin is more spacious than sedans, the steering, clutch and gearshift are soft, it has enough power for my mostly relaxed driving style, gets good fuel economy, its a Toyo so reliable and cheap to maintain.

The cons are that the 2012 1 I have is not in good shape exterior wise, its not much of a looker even if it were mint. Also, it is not as comfy as some friends cars I have driven.

So I was thinking, what would be a good move sideways or slightly up in price that would improve the above pros and cons.

I figured that there might be caveats with going for an older C-segment over a newer B-segment etc

So, it's a help me pick a car thread vs an opinion in general.

In that case, get a 320d and end your search.

Yeah, you'll likely get a bit more features and things, bit more room, bit bigger engines and the like, at the cost of age, wear or budget.

always been a used car person, now more than ever with the new prices the way they are.

so I think its a cool discussion/thought experiment
 
Toyotas (Excluding Etios) by far the most comfortable cars, though the drive is a bit sterile.
