Moto G

Do you guys think it will be worth getting rid of my 16gb moto g and getting the new one? As there aren't any major differences are there?

How does this phone (actually the Moto G 4G) stack up versus the S3 Mini or S4 Mini? Any catch to the price tag? Any issues regarding the responsiveness of the touch screen, etc?

In the mood to buy a new Android phone by the end of the year, my S3 mini is a bit dated.

Check the reviews, I have the dual sim non lte version, and is my primary phone at the moment because the size is just right, and not too big.

The only issue I have is I tend to mistype on the keyboard sometimes, because I use another phone as well, and distance between keys a little different.

No lag or anything, lots of apps installed and worth more than the money I paid for it for sure!

Moto G 4G - bigger screen, higher resolution, quad core 1.2 Ghz (vs dual core 1.7 Ghz), bigger battery.
Samsung Galaxy S 4 mini - better camera 8MP (vs 5MP).

Everything else pretty much the same. Additionally the Moto has a "clean" OS i.e. no bloatware.

Responsiveness - very responsive, no problems. Have mine for 3 months already.

Thanks, I've checked the reviews, including gsmarena (wanted to get some personal views). I'll just install SwiftKey on it so the keyboard shouldn't be a problem. Just wanted to check that the screen is responsive. Nothing irritates me more than a tap not being registered.

My SO's phone wouldn't power on after the battery died. A quick search returned the following solution. Will hopefully be helpful to someone here, easier to just prevent the battery from completely draining in the future.

Problem: Moto G won’t turn on

A few people have run into a problem where the Moto G simply refuses to turn on. It seems to be completely dead and doesn’t respond to key presses.

Potential solution:

Plug it in to the charger and then press and hold the*Volume down*key and the*Power*key for more than two minutes (time it to make sure you’re doing it for long enough). You should see the boot screen with the*Normal Reboot*option highlighted and you can press*Volume up*to boot it.

I have never experienced this, good luck. Let us know if it works out.

If I buy this will be my first Smartphone and I basically use it for calls and SMS. Is it worth it for me to get the 4G revised or the LTE. Speed of service won't bother me. I currently have (for years now) a Standard pay as you go SIM from Vodacom. Is it possible to keep this number for a new micro Sim.

Go for the 2014 edition. It's cheaper than the original on Orange

Thanks for your prompt reply, my apologies for being so "doff" but is it the 4 g revised at Orange you are referring to? I don't see any reference to 2014.

2nd generation. Goes for approximately R2700 last I checked

Got it now it's just called Moto G (2nd generation) not 4 G which is overkill for my purpose. If browsing/updating at home can I use my ADSL wifi to cut down on the Vodacom bill? Will I be able to use my iPad charger for this phone?

Yes and yes. Though you'll need to use the USB cable provided rather than the ipad cable - an adapter should be there too though

My GF just got one of these. And I am amazed at how good it is for the money. Makes you think, why do all the other phones cost so much when the Moto G is so good.

Finally got my 4.4.4 update this morning can't believe I waited that long for such a minor update
