Pretty good race. Was tight right to the end. Quartararo just continues to outride his bike. The next best Yamaha was Darryn down in 16th (and that included a long lap penalty). Amazing ride from Brad too, dragging that KTM to the fringes of the top 6.

"I don't accept the Tech3 spot" - Oliveira set for KTM exit?

Miguel Oliveira's future at KTM has been thrown into serious doubt after the Portuguese star revealed he has turned down their offer of a move to the Tech3 KTM Factory Racing squad for 2023.

The 27-year-old is KTM's most successful premier class rider with four MotoGP™ wins to his name, including their only victory of 2022 so far at the Indonesian Grand Prix. However, he hinted that his four-year stay with the Austrian factory could be coming to an end.

Speaking over the Italian Grand Prix weekend, KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer confirmed the Austrian factory are in talks with Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar), Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Pol Espargaro (Repsol Honda Team) over a move for 2023, causing him to admit that Oliveira "must be open" to a switch back to their satellite squad next season. But, on Sunday evening in Mugello, Oliveira revealed he will "definitely" not be joining Herve Poncharal's outfit and is instead exploring options elsewhere.

Rookie Darryn Binder overcomes a long lap penalty to beat Franco Morbidelli and finish as the second-best Yamaha in Sunday’s Italian MotoGP.

On a weekend that RNF announced it will be switching to Aprilia machinery from next season, Binder threw his hat firmly in the ring for one of the RS-GP rides by delivering his ‘best race’ in the premier-class.

The South African jumped from 20th to 17th on the opening lap, but was then forced to serve a long lap penalty for falling under yellow flags in free practice, dropping him back to 23rd. Binder made his comeback intentions clear by briefly overtaking factory Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli on the following lap, the pair remaining together as they moved up the order.

But it was Binder, riding the year-old A spec bike, who had the last laugh, snatching 16th from Morbidelli at the chequered flag.

Binder may not have joined Ducati rookies Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio di Giannantonio in featuring at the front of the race, but team manager Wilco Zeelenberg was delighted to see him take on and beat Morbidelli's factory Yamaha.

“Having him battling with the boys, especially Franco and beating him in the last lap made the team very proud and we celebrated that like a victory," Zeelenberg said.

“We are extremely happy with the performance of Darryn,” added team boss Razlan Razali. “He showed his worthiness, competencies, capabilities and most importantly his talent to be competitive and managed to be the second best Yamaha rider in front of Franco Morbidelli.

“We hope that he will continue this momentum for the next round in Catalunya. We must thank the team especially his Crew Chief, Noe Herrera for being able to give him the setting that he likes on the M1."

The Aleix challenge never materialized and he will be the subject of internet memes for months to come. Fabio was unstoppable as you mentioned but it's a pity Pecco was taken out. I think were robbed of another good battle at the front

I really thought Brad would have more success on that medium rear tyre but an eighth place from 15th is another solid ride. Massive respect to Darryn as well.

Ever since Remi Gardner (and his dad) had a hissy fit about Darryn's supposed dangerous riding at Mandalika, I've always taken some smug satisfaction in seeing him finish ahead of the Tech3 KTM rider and today was no different. He beat a factory Ducati for goodness sake. On a decent bike, combined with a year's experience, he'll be right up there.

That was hilarious and couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. Both Espargaro's are jerks and today's blunder by Aleix made a good weekend great.

Mmm... Jack didn't really make an imprint at the factory Duke that he so wanted to ride :-| kinda feeling like him and Danny Ric are underperforming in decent machines

How different is the KTM from the Ducati style of riding? I really hope that he does well though - sad to see Oliveira booted out. Wonder where he will end up since he snubbed the Tech3
