MotoGP 2024

Yeah, the fact that he was even in Q1 in the first place is a problem. Hoping for some sprint magic later.

Acosta is proving he belongs and then some. Although, I won't lie that I'm getting sick of the commentators going about him now. If I hear the phrase, 'rookie sensation' one more time, I'm going to throw something at the TV. We get guys. Can we move on now...?

Vinales' lap was brilliant! The question is now can he get the start to make the most of it. He has a problem of going backwards at the start

Yeah that issue with starts has plagued him across multiple seasons and manufacturers

Pedro is the next big MotoGP selling point, commentators gotta hype man you gotta feel for Augusto Fernandez in all this to an extent

That was rather dominant by Mav, no one had anything for him

Factory Dukes looked out of it there, awesome for the WC

What a recovery by #BatMav - again no one could hold a torch to him. Really glad for him after all his challenges. 3 different manufacturers wins

Acosta showing why the commentators can’t stop waxing lyrical about him - he’s now the leading KTM in the world championship

Bastianini rediscovering his form and Pecco having a tough start to the season

WC is nice and competitive.

The less said about Japanese cup bikes the better

Really exciting race at this track for a change. Nice to see Maverick getting his **** together. At this stage there is at least 6 riders who can fight for the championship this year if they keep their consistency, so this could be a banger of a season.

Acosta should be on the factory KTM next year without a doubt, no sense in wasting time not doing it sooner. Miller is pedestrian and can't achieve anything for the last few years already. It's no good having one stunning race and then be **** for the rest (ie. consistently good, not consistently bad). Binder should also be checking over his shoulder, no matter if he has a contract, thus he'll have to up his game sooner rather than later. I can't understand why it's so difficult for him to qualify decently, thus he'll always be fighting for minor places (and not a championship), and with the other guys upping their game he'll be fading soon.

If I was Binder I'd be trying to get Alex Marquez' seat (or even an Aprilia seat), as a change of scenery might do him good.

What can be said about Honda and Yamaha, why would anyone even sign up with those teams. I'd rather go ride in Moto2.

Looking forward to the next exciting race...

What a sprint!

What a race!

Marc is getting used to that duke and it was so good to see Pecco put elbows out as well

Happy that Bez has found his pace as well

Roll on Le Mans!!!!

What a race it was yesterday! The Marquez of old scrapping it out at the front. It's a pity it didn't come down to a last lap / last corner showdown as I have no doubt that given half a chance, Marquez would have sent it up the inside. But credit to Bagnaia. That penultimate lap to put some daylight between himself and Marc was proper fast! Ducati (the factory team, that is) has a real conundrum on their hands with the lineup for next year. Bastianini is showing flashes of the form that got him the ride in the first place. Marc is a free agent next year and is making a case and Martin has said that one way or another next year, he is riding for a factory team, which is a thinly veiled threat to say 'pick me or lose me'. 3 doesn't go into 1, so like at the satellite KTM team with the arrival of Acosta, someone will be left out in the cold.

Augusto and Jack are on thin ice I would say. Brad may not be all that secure in the works team either given recent form.

Was also crazy to see how off the pace Aprillia were after doing so well the last couple of races… still some work for them to do

So, big changes announced for 2027 and onwards.

ENGINES

From 2027, engine size will be reduced from 1000cc to 850cc. This will decrease top speeds, making the sport safer, and increase mileage, making it more efficient and sustainable. The maximum bore will reduce from 81 to 75 millimetres, which will also limit performance. This makes the engines more road-relevant at the same time as ensuring they keep the characteristics that make MotoGP™ as spectacular as it is.To make the sport even more efficient, the maximum number of engines allowed for each rider in a season will also reduce, from seven to six.

FUEL

As already announced, MotoGP™ will race with 100% sustainable fuel from 2027 – rising from the minimum 40% the sport has raced with since 2024. As part of the new regulations, fuel tank capacity will also reduce, from 22 litres to 20, and riders will be allowed to use 11 litres during the Tissot Sprint.

AERODYNAMICS

Aerodynamics will be reduced and more tightly controlled from 2027, with the aim of minimising their negative effects. The width of the top of the front fairing will be 50mm narrower and the nose will be pushed back 50mm, reducing the effect of aero where it matters, on the straights and the braking areas. This will create even closer racing, with even more overtaking.

At the back, the aero behind the rider will be part of the homologation from 2027, and teams will only be allowed to update that once per season to control costs.

RIDE-HEIGHT AND HOLESHOT DEVICES

In the new era from 2027, all ride-height and holeshot devices will be banned. That will control performance and make the sport safer, especially during race starts. This will also give even more importance to the skill of each rider, just like aero, is aimed at increasing their ability to overtake.

GPS DATA

To level the playing field even further, GPS data from all riders will be available to all teams after each session. Providing data to all competitors offers better opportunity to progress for the less performing teams and riders, and at a controlled cost. Access to this range of data will help make the sport safer, and it will also increase the level of insight available to fans around the world.

CONCESSIONS

The current concession system, introduced at the end of the 2023 season, will continue – but as the new technical regulations come into force in 2027, all manufacturers will start the season in Rank B. They will then be assessed again mid-season, in summer 2027, and can change rank up or down to have access to more or less concessions. This reactive system means manufacturers’ performance is taken into account from Day 1, keeping the playing field as close as possible as a new era begins.

“Do you think this is the perfect opportunity for BMW, because it seems very welcoming?”

Crash.net’s WorldSBK reporter Robert Jones replied: “I think BMW is the sort of manufacturer MotoGP is aiming for and these rules follow hints that have already been dropped by BMW about MotoGP.

“We know BMW could afford MotoGP and they’ve already adopted a MotoGP-style approach to their WorldSBK project, investing heavily not only in their race team, signing Toprak, but also their test team.

“I think these new rules will make it a more level playing field for a new manufacturer to come into MotoGP and have a better chance of being competitive straightaway. I think BMW are definitely interested.”

Moreland said: “Having Sylvain Guintoli as a test rider is such a boost for BMW’s WorldSBK project and we all know how he contributed to Suzuki’s MotoGP project...”

Would be cool if BMW entered the fray. The more manufacturers (and competitive ones), the better for the sport. Satellite teams would have more choice of who to partner with and the interest in the sport would ratchet up by some level.

Looks like a bit of rain forecast around the time of the start of the main race on Sunday. Could spice things up if an untimely shower hits.

Man, did BB33 have a stinker of a FP day today... Crashed like 3 times... BB33 being like the old Marquez, oh wait that douche also had a few crashes, lmao
