Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015) 6.5/10

Some good laughs & witty humour.Not as funny as the 1st one but if you enjoyed the 1st installment you should dig this new one.


Some Kind of Beautiful (2014) 6.5/10

"A drama about a Cambridge poetry professor who begins to re-evaluate his life of Byronic excess." Fairly predictable but has its moments.Lucky guy Pirece Brosnan gets to have the sexy time with these two lovelies (Alba & Hayek).

Lots of grunting and groaning and crawling over the snow.
Screenplay is weak and predictable.
Subtitles are needed to make out what Tom Hardy is saying.
Cinematography is good though.

Must agree...this movie has EVERYTHING, except the most important and obvious: septic shock, hypothermia and frost bite.
 
Spectre (2015) 5/10

Every James Bond movie the same thing that's been rinsed and repeated.

And oi vey, things that are just so convenient to be in places at the right time, just frustrates me to the end.

That's why I wish they would make more Bourne movies, bourne is what bond should have been.

Shaken, not stirred.

I don't really know what to make of this Bond.
When Casino Royale came out I hailed the new no-BS 007, the brutal 'rules what rules' assassin. But the 'Bond feel was still there, the debonair spy, the charming lothario always with a come-on line for Moneypenny, and always essentially British.

That seems gone now.

Those magical opening sequences from The Spy Who Loved Me ( the Union Jack parachute ) or Blofeld dumped down the chimney in For Your Eyes Only have been replaced by what seems to be a scene from The Expendables 4.

I'm used to exotic locations - built into the storyline simply because they were exotic locations.

And yes, those Q gadgets, as silly as they were they were an essential Bond ingredient.

This Bond gives us deserts and an explosive watch - whoopee.

This Craig Bond is all business and hardly any fun and if Bond is no longer fun then he's just another not so secret agent.

I longed for a 360 car roll off a broken wooden bridge, a New Orleans funeral band or even a kamikazi bowler hat.

It's not Daniel Craig I have the problem with, but his Bond lacks the Britishness of Moore, the charisma of Connery and the playboy coolness of Brosnan.

Spectre left me feeling somewhat cheated.

Love those old opening sequences & exotic locations.

I liked the q gadgets as a kit but now I find them corny.

They could give bond a little bit more 'character' though.
 
The Peanuts Movie (2015) 8/10

I honestly didn't expect to enjoy the movie that much but wow the feel-good factor is through the roof. If you even remotely like the Peanuts cartoons of old you will adore this movie. It stays absolutely truthful to the classic cartoons; a beautiful adaption. The CGI is brilliant; the gags are brilliant; the score just works; the simplistic story is well done. For me the absolute star was Snoopy; along with Woodstock; who takes the cake. Their facial expressions & roles are just top notch. I could not help smiling & having a hearty chuckle when Snoopy came on screen. My rating of 8/10 is very close to overall IMDB rating of 7.6. I even properly enjoyed the trailer which I watched after the movie.

Previously for me the best animated movie of 2015 was but The Peanuts Movie surpasses that. It's a movie I will whole heartedly recommend to all & will most certainly watch a 2nd; 3rd time round. Well done Blue Sky Studios!

Been a damn long time since a good action movie like this hit the screens. The movie drew me in and I was throwing ethics out the window on what I would have done to the bad guys

Yeah Tom Hanks can really act. His turn in Captain Phillips was a revelation.


Wild Tales - 7.5/10. Argentinean vignette film in the style of Amores Perros (one of my favorite movies). Some brilliant and darkly hilarious stories, but it's difficult to see that it amounted to more than the sum of its parts.
