Moving from Cool Ideas, recommend an ISP

Funny how it's always the same:

  1. Afrihost does something good, becomes the darling of ISPs
  2. Everybody moves to Afrihost
  3. 2-3 years pass, they **** up and people start looking for a new ISP
  4. Cool Ideas does something good, becomes the darling of ISPs

  6. 2-3 years pass, they **** up and people start looking for a new ISP
  7. [pending] does something good...

Cybersmart was voted best ISP, yet I don't see much about them?

Anyone have opinions on them?

I'm on Openserve via Vodacom 10/5
Stable ping on international servers 170 - 180
Never had any down time.
Never had any buffering issues on Twitch or Netflix streaming 720p
Never had any slow downs.

Town of about 150 000 people
Experience in large cities may differ, but I've had nothing to complain about for about 8 months now

Have to agree with Hamster..... CISP have been amazing for the past year or so I have been with them....... barring the recent attacks they have experienced.

I'm with Packetsky which is situated in JHB on the Vumatel backbone. What is great about them is i can chat to top level network engineers not just the "techies" and they are competitively priced.
Also if you're connecting to EU server i hope your KDA is legendary.

Thanks man, like @CrypticZA said any pings and traceroutes would be appreciated

I know it's either that or something isn't adding up, I've been recommending people to go with CISP even before I had fibre in my area and never heard bad things about them. That all changed when I joined them.

Where would you like a trace/ping to...

You come across like someone who works for PacketSky.

+1 If anyone is with them, please feel free to share

Were you not one of the crowd jumping up and down in the CI help thread during the DDOS attacks? Screaming how bad it was and wanting to go to Supersonic?

And can you also explain why you came here "looking" for an ISP, when clearly you seem to be punting Supersonic from the get go.

Sneaky, sneaky, says I.

Also, while I think CISP need to urgently resolve these issues, you look at the other ISP threads and you will see just an many if not more issues. There is a reason CISP has been rated so well for this long. Personally hoping for quick outcome and willing to give them an opportunity to find a "permanent" solution....

From PBcool.
So attacks of a certain magnitude we scrub ourselves, then beyond that we have an external scrubbing service, then from there blackholing which is what you're describing.
So there is an MTU issue with the external scrubbing service which we have discovered with this last attack which we working on resolving with the provider.

This thread reeks of schills....

I think Cable Provider is relevant here because NNI costs ect but on Openserve here is my honest opinion.

Supersonic has a great network. It's MTN Business probably one of the biggest networks in SA. Backed by MTN it's magnificent but that is where it stops. Customer service is meh and when things go wrong yeah it's hard to get answers like when they started experiencing IPC congestion and issue directly impacting Openserve clients only and ultimately the reason for me leaving them.

Afrihost is been really great. Not so ideal routing to EU with Liquid Telecoms before and DDoS but since they moved to Telkom transit it's been okay. Latency to EU is okay not great but okay. Ideally I would love it to be lower.

Mind The Speed aka Network Platforms. Well if you want THE KING of low latency then this is where it's at. Low latency to anything EU with very decent routing to EU.

Cybersmart. Well the boss of uptime really. They are never down and downtedector will attest to that. Great uptime and for people in CPT maybe the best ISP to be on. For JHB and PTA people well idk because 190ms is not exactly decent and since they run their own route to London no chance of that being reduced it seems.

Vox is pretty decent but again 190ms to London is just not good enough.

Never used Cool Ideas so don't know. I did use a test account pbcool gave me before. It was really good actually very acceptable but I tested it when there was no ddos so idk about that.

Websquad. Also never used them but since they also get capacity from Network Platforms they are pretty damn good. They have a little secret weapon. Direct China route with China telecoms which gives you very nice low latency to Hong Kong and the latency is usually lower than EU which is really nice.

Don't move from Cool Ideas to Supersonic, I made that mistake.
Yes CISP has network issues, but at least they engage with you and their support is pretty good.

Supersonic is a ****ing nightmare to deal with. As an experiment before signing with them I suggest you call their contact center and try get through to support. For added fun try log a ticket on their WhatsApp number and see if you get a response the same day (or EVER)

Honestly the worst customer service I've ever had, surpassing any government department you could think of

I would say avoid RSAWEB this is our business 50/50 fibre package which we pay a lot for...

Their local is amazing considering we getting 100 more download than we should be but international is always basically dead.
