Moving from Cool Ideas, recommend an ISP

80% of the problems mentioned here would be eliminated if a person had a cost effective method of mitigating the reliance on a single ISP.
The FTTx providers have created a problem which they exploit in having customers churn between ISPs. This might seem a good thing but is disruptive. In actual fact it borders on hypocrisy as for years ISPs have been complaining about "naked ADSL" but this type of lock-in is no different as seen from the context that in removes a customer's choice.
Ironically, on OpenServe (the bad boy of "naked ADSL") you can have two PPPoE accounts from separate ISPs. My second one was from a special which was only R99 for six months.
At my home I can get Vumatel but I'll take a pass as I won't be able to get a cheap second account. Also I don't want to be shafted for their migration fee when a churn happens.
Unfortunately people are more likely to get the fastest speed they can instead of worrying about redundancy or fail over. FTTH for some reason is being seen as this magical "Guaranteed speed and service" product, when in fact its anything but that. Most people seem to be under the impression that they have an SLA agreement with their ISP's that guarantees that issues will be solved in an hour to 4 hours.

Just signed up with MindTheSpeed, effortless and zero issues, only day 1 though so we will see.

Ping: 1ms
Download: 50.66Mbps
Upload: 49.84Mbps

And the process to have cisp release the line?

No issues for me, I ordered the migration on the 30th while on holiday, cancellation was on the 31st at midnight and I was phoned on the morning of the 1st to tell me my pre-configured router will be delivered on the 2nd, all MTS needed was the object number and I was sorted, it was plug and play.

No notice period?

There is never any time period associated with solving a problem. Ask Boeing.

Following thread as well

Info regarding Twitch streaming, gaming to EU (pings etc) would be appreciated :)
Nice PP, I've heard Atomic is good. Can't confirm myself though, just second hand info.

Bloody good point.

Try Home-Connect I have not had any issues in about 5 months.

Well FTTH is a home product anyone wo thinks they will get business SLA times are a bit naive... That said I think FTTH in South Africa is pretty damn good in general. You are almost always likely to get your paid for speeds even during peak time. In the UK for example they advertise typical average speeds during peak time and they are pretty low. You might have a 500Mbps fibre line that averages 50Mbps during peak time and people there see that as acceptable...

In SA if you have a 200Mbps fibre line you will likely get 200Mbps be it 7pm at night or 1am morning. FTTH is a contended service but the providers are doing a pretty decent job if you ask me.

I have a 500 Mbps with Atomic, they are solid.
DDoS once since I‘ve been with them, mitigated in 8 hrs. They are small so you get personal service. They Cape Town only. Plus dhcp which is why I chose them.

Have a backup line 50mbps in case they get DDos attacked.

Only have frogfoot here but they have sorted out all their teething troubles in Cape Town and have been pretty solid Lately. Frogfoot sla is 3 days on Ftth strictly speaking and 8 hours on Gpon business. Their Gpon business is running on ftth infrastructure in my areas but with VLAN ability for business and you are paying for the better SLA.

All my stuff lives in the cloud so I need backup to monitor - I get paid to always be online so I can’t drop the ball.
With two ISP lines I have never been without phones or internet, Frogfoot has never had an outage here in a year. Slow speed issue twice due to capacity but no outage. *touch wood*

Agree with @cavedog, we have of the best FTTH in the world. Australia UK and US cable don't come close.

probably the packetloss doesn't affect them because content servers are 10ms away, not 150-180ms away.

For us it is much the same, with the exception of pirated streams and a few live streaming services such as Twitch, the rest are served via local caches.
