Morning guys,

I am moving out of my place at the end of February, but I don't want to go through the whole waiting 3-4 weeks for Telkom to setup a new line for me.

I currently have an uncapped bundle with Afrihost.

So my question is, when should I notify telkom to move my line?

Does it take just as long as getting a new one?

I think you would need to speak to afrihost if its a bundled telkom line and bandwidth from them

The best way to do this, is firstly to see wherther the place you are moving to perhaps has an existing phone/ADSL line. If it does you can get a change of ownership form and do that if the other party agrees.

If not then the best bet is to transfer your existing services, which there is a place you can do it online, and you get a free cordless phone

For timing, it would depend on the area where you are moving to and whether telkom has availability

Telkom has a special at the moment, where you apply online to move your line, and then they transfer the whole system as is, to where you are moving, for free, AND if you applied online, you get a free cordless phone. I applied on the 12th December, i moved on the 14th, and on the 18th they had moved everything for me. http://residential.telkom.co.za/index.html

I did this last year. It was a balls up.

We processes the cancellation of our current line and the installation of the new line as a single order in October. We wanted the old line cancelled on the 14th of dec and the new line installed on the 17th.
The cancellation happened on time but when we got here there was not a peep from Telkom.
I went into a telkom shop and found out that despite ordering the new line 2 months in advance they only looked at it once the first part of the order was completed, that being the cancellation.
So they only STARTED processing the new installation on the 14th of December.

My advice, FIRST order the new line and then cancel the old one a few days before you move out.

little bit too late to think of that now hey, it's almost end of the month, you need to give 30 daysa notice
