Hi. Need your help. OS is Vista Home Premium on a HP Pavillon Desktop. Connected to the internet via D-Link router. While Mozilla operates and connects to the internet perfectly, I am unable to do the same with IE7.

IE7 opens, but says "unable to display the webpage". Using the problem diagnosis function of IE it does not find any problem with the connection. Also when establishing a new internet connection, IE says "you are already connected to the internet". Firewall settings have been checked.

Contacted Microsoft, HP and iBurst. Microsoft wont help (says its a task for HP) and HP has no idea. iBurst says its a software problem. WTF?!

Can anyone help to get the IE7 on my machine to connect to the internet sorted? Thank you.

its a sign telling you IE is the devil and dont use it

listen to the sign and stop trying to fix somethingt hat is useless and loves to put spyware on your pc

go into IE 7 select tools internet options select connections tab and make sure never dial a connection is ticked then click apply

i had this problem on the weekend with an elderly friends laptop.
he had symantec internet-suckydicky installed, the whole shebang.
vista did some updated, machine rebooted as normal, and everything could connect (msn email etc) except i.e.

i came round to visit him to fix it, and turned off the symantec nonsense firewall...i.e. still blocked.
checked symantec firewall logs, and even though firewall was off it was still logging i.e. trying to connect and blocking it.

so i got rid of symantec and he is now happy. but it looks like some of the latest vista updatesdont place nice-nice.

no it looks like norton sucks and should not be installed on any system EVER

dont blame vista for norton's kuk products

IE is used when there's no alternative. In this case I have downloaded an application (through Mozilla) which updates using the IE. - All suggestions above I have done already. Re anti virus, I am using Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.

Could narrow down the problem: got to do with Kaspersky Firewall. Once switched off, IE7 connects and runs normally. And when switched back on, IE7 goes nowhere. - Need to work on that one.
