2) Which new version of VMC-Lite does not have sms ??

No it doenst have sms... havent you noticed? The older Huawei modems(With the Huawei logo on the front) came out with the "Mobile Connect" dashboard which has a sms function. The new ones(with the Vodafone logo on the front) has VMCLite, which does not have the sms function.

Yes I have seen that. I am currently using the latest 27 May 2007 Dash from huawei it does have sms.

Hey v3g There is something wrong here. I always use this link to download http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/3g/downloads.jsp . no VMC-Lite . But the one from @Iam3G shows it.??? http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/mobile_data/downloads.jsp Even the versions of V9.x is not the same.?? This is not good

The way I get to the older versions is Home > bot of page > USB modem > downloads & wala wysiwyg ??

Please advice.

I will download and test in a couple of minutes and see how it goes.

you can see the difference in the link. They changed the "3G" link to "Mobile Data". Dont know when they did that.

That was a rare thing that happened that. I think it was more Vista that caused it. Coz Vista wouldnt allow me to uninstall VMC7.x. All it says was "Another instance is still running. Finish that one first". Tried installing again, no luck either.
 
Yes i would like to know Csnoopy. But my question is, how do i get that software on the Modem? becoz if you only install the modem drivers, and then that software, what about the software on the modem already? Wont it try to install everytime you plug in the modem?

No they did not, these are 2 seperate links, check for yourself.

1) vodacom.co.za > bot of page > usb modem > downloads
2) vodacom.co.za > services > mobile data > downloads

VMC-Lite 2.1.6.1 flashes the modem also so I would assume 2.2.x.x should do the same. As I said I am using HUAWEI 2.2.x.x should wipe it off the modem.

1) VMC-Lite 2.1.6.1 refreshes the software on the modem.
2) VMC-Lite 2.2.1.10 only installs a new dashboard. It does not wipe the modem software.
a) Cannot force connection to 3G only. It looks like it is set to 3G Preferred.
b) It does have sms option.
c) A couple of times it just locked up (Not responding).
d) It appears to be slower.

I prefer the HUAWEI Software latest version dated 27 May 2007.

Correction I am using the HUAWEI dashboard
PLEASE REMEBER YOU ARE USING THIS SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK

Open internet explorer and go to the following link

Step 1: www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/list.do?type=-1&id=736

Step 2: Download first file “E220-HOSTB106D04SP00C03 (Normal) (7958 KB) 29-May-2007 ” ( Save file on hard drive under my documents )

Step 3: Go to drive f: (not 100% sure on the drive of the 3G modem) make a copy

of all the data on the drive & save to a new created folder VMC_Lite. (Create Folder)

Step 4: Extract the software that u’ve downloaded under my documents & run

HOST20.11.06.04.00.03.exe

Step 5: Run Installation

Step 6: Shutdown & Restart pc after software has been installed. (Unplug the 3G Modem)

Step 7: Plug Modem in after System has Restarted

Step 8: Open Mobile Connect (Icon on Desktop)

Step 9: Go to Settings -> Network connection Settings

Step 10: Click New, 3G, Number: *99***16# click Save -> Ok

Step 11: Click on connect
