MTN Ayoba ad not racist

... FFS people we are a minority, deal with it, the sooner you do, the sooner we can improve our situation ...
Improve?

I think most people are aware that we are a minority. Competition will improve the problem. If I want to support, for example, a European company instead of a local one, no one should complain. We are just a drop in the ocean, aren't we?. </slightly-sarcastic>

E.g. BA vs SAA

I don't think MTN quite understand the meaning of progress.

In the one 'Ayoba' ad they show a guy sending a SMS to his girlfriend proclaiming his love for her. They then state this is the 'old' way of doing it. In the next scene the same guy is yelling at his girl's window that he loves her with the use of a megaphone.

I don't get it. Shouldn't they rather be promoting the use of sms or mms? I mean using a cellphone instead of yelling is supposed to be the new way of doing it?

Next they will probably show the advantages of beating a drum to get your message accross instead of using a cellphone.

I agree.

Same with Vodacom, Multichoice ads, the white person is always portrayed like the dumb one of the two, where as, the black person has the help him.

I agree even more.

People must realise thats the Black people are a bigger market, according to StatsSA
There are 39,38 Million black people, and 4,55 White people, so thats about a 8:1 ratio..... do you people really think a company is going to not want to target this market? FFS people we are a minority, deal with it, the sooner you do, the sooner we can improve our situation

Yes well I don't really care.

Yes we are a minority; that pays most of the taxes collected in this country. I can see why you would want to alienate the moneymakers.

So...MTN is telling us that Blacks are the real judge of whats Cool ?
Awesome, just about as Racist as BEE and AA, but hang on, those policies are not Racist at all....or are they ?
:wtf:

Oh yea, and this trend of adds on TV portraying the white man as the idiot where a black man steps in to correct him...is getting a little tiresome.
If it wasn't for the comical value hidden in the fact that most people know that that scenario is so backwards its almost funny, they would not even have been in the advert.

Yes, but whats the point of having 40+ million black people where 90% can barely afford R10 airtime a month, and 5 million white people where 90% have R200-R300 monthly contracts....you do the Math.(ok the Stats here is totally flawed, but you get the jist of it)

ayoba is actually indian....these ****ers stole it from us...

there is an idian saying : '' ayo bah '' , thats like a statement out of shock , lets say the grannies see a girl with a short dress or kissing a guy on the street...they used to say that...

no these idiots , go and steal it from us...so now when we say ''ayo bah'' as indians , we sound like these dum monkeys in the adverts screaming ayoba this ayoba that....

i have to wonder about this white man being the brunt of jokes. have any of you watched sabc1 to see what the ads there look like?

it seems the white people on this forum are seeing racism in the ad industry in how white people are treated. as a black person i don't see it. suppose much like how white people don't see racism in the work place against black employees.

The white dude as an object of ridicule is well established on RSA television advertising at this point. Should've started complaining earlier.

Nothing to do with SA, it's a global stereotype.

Stereotypes have nothing to do with racism, and they are used in advertising all the time. Dumb blonds, camera adverts with Chinese tourists, Indians with modified cars, white people being uncool, black people shouting (remember the Cell C ads?), the list goes on.

Stop being so bloody sensitive. Just look at all the adverts where black stereotypes are abused, like almost every KFC advert. I've seen at least two adverts where a middle-class black guy is too lazy to change a car tire.

This is what I was gonna say. Although we are in the minority, we still have the economy in our hands.

I'm confident that people like you really don't have that much to do with the economy.

Unlike the politically incorrect stereotypes that are so abundant in the adds of today, what I said is more along the lines of a statistic in South Africa.White people do have a higher average monthly income than black people, it’s a fact. This coming from a country which has policies like BEE and AA that which are the epitome of Racism to the core, and you think a simple statistical fact is racist ?

Sigh

oh and
I'm confident that people like you really don't have that much to do with the economy.

lol ;)

It's in all the ads... look at the Tops ad that flighted during all the World Cup matches on DSTV. The indian and black guy, and then the coloured girl are all great at passing the beer to each other using trick soccer moves. Then the dumb looking white guy in the corner has it splash in his face as he opens it. That's ayoba.
