MTN Ayoba ad not racist

The fact that I know the guy who acted the character in question makes this even more lol for me :D
 
This is why I don't watch Terrestrial broadcast TV.

Sounds about as intelligent as giving Glass China to Gorillas.
 
What I dont understand is MTN's braindead tactic to alienate potential clients, me for one was thinking to migrate to them when I get de moer in with VC, but now they will never ever see my profile on their systems
 
I feel that other youth of South Africa is always excluded:

In this context, the commercial shows no warning from the performers, no safety gear, and no general safety precautions.”

The ASA said that the disregard for safety shown in the commercial is not reasonable and justifiable, and ordered MTN to withdraw the commercial with immediate effect.

I'm in agreement with porchrat... This is a sad day for the South African. Seriously, we're not Americans. Our parents taught us the difference between fantasy and reality... And what they forgot or missed out on we've been able to figure out for ourselves without the need to sue one another about it. Oh and a wonderful scientific approach by the ASA I see: "It has often been held..." Really? We're passing judgement on what the public should and should not see based on contentious research and/or anecdotal evidence now? It's an insult to the intelligence of all South Africans.

Dunno man... It'll take much more than a made-up word to trump Vodacom's meerkat for suckness.
 
Same with Vodacom, Multichoice ads, the white person is always portrayed like the dumb one of the two, where as, the black person has the help him.

I don't think MTN quite understand the meaning of progress.

In the one 'Ayoba' ad they show a guy sending a SMS to his girlfriend proclaiming his love for her. They then state this is the 'old' way of doing it. In the next scene the same guy is yelling at his girl's window that he loves her with the use of a megaphone.

I don't get it. Shouldn't they rather be promoting the use of sms or mms? I mean using a cellphone instead of yelling is supposed to be the new way of doing it? :confused:

Next they will probably show the advantages of beating a drum to get your message accross instead of using a cellphone.

I thought that the ad was not racist and the people complaining was just pompous. Then I saw the following in the article: "A white man was chosen for the scene involving a g-string as they are usually worn by white people to increase the owner’s tanning area." I, by staying in Cape Town, have never seen a guy wearing a g-string for taning purposes. In fact if I would have seen such a sight, I would have taken photos and put it on the web and be making fun of it. The thing that really gets me is the g-strings are usually worn by white people. That to me is racist. There would lots of time I would be walking behind a black woman on the streets and I can't help but notice the brightly coloured g-string having a look at the world over the back of pants. Sure I saw the same with some white girls as well. So, that little statement should be along the lines of women usually wear g-strings, not whites.
I am sorry, but I am getting fed up of blacks getting away with racism.

I didn't think it was racist and I'm white. I also couldn't see the guy in the car clearly enough to see if he was wearing safety gear or not, and it seemed the spectators were raised off the ground.

Next someone will complain about the Ayoba ad, that the lamb on the spit is a blatant disregard for animal rights and the poor live sheep they were walking had to witness the dead one, bla bla bla :P

By the way, I'm not defending MTN or the Ayoba slogan ... I hate both ... but I have a remarkable ability to be objective ;)
