MTN Black Friday Discussions

So when the 3rd round was announced, I told friends and family so that they could take advantage. One of my friends sent his wife and she took a cheap phone and got the 50GB a month deal.

Today I found out that she went to Vodacom this past weekend to buy a LTE mifi to use the new MTN sim in and Vodacom told her that their mifi's will not allow any other network's sim in. She believed them and went and returned the MTN deal sim and phone as she had not opened anything yet.

When I told her that Vodacom had lied to her, she went pale.....

So even if she believed them, why didn't she just buy the LTE mifi from MTN?:wtf:

So they cloned your sim? Are they both working simultaneously?

No, not a SIM clone - dual call on different sims
Seems the Dual call sim uses a different number but can receive calls from the native sims number if that sim is not active/not answering.

Also gets sms's which seem meant for the main sim which I thought wasn't possible.

Yip.
Dual Call was actually meant for back in the day carphones, you would have the Primary simcard in your cellphone and the Secondary simcard in your carphone. There is a Call Divert setup to divert unanswered calls from the Primary number to the Secondary number. You would actually pay for that diverted call as an outgoing call on the primary sim. (not sure if the billing still works that way)

There is no cloning done. Yes both do work simultaneously

Uzairb, how did you do it? Mine is still not active!

Went to the store atleast 5 times in the past 2 weeks. Just deal with one person, or it gets even more messy. I worked for iTalk some years ago, so know pretty much some of their processes.
They had Activated the Dual Call sim pretty much the same day, from what i gather their RICA process is messed up and it sometimes jams, they did mine over 3 or 4 time in the 2 weeks. Quick way to find out if your RICA is done, see https://rica.mtn.co.za/quicksearch.aspx (check both the primary and secondary numbers)
They had also logged USD queries twice for some other team to check it out.

I think I found the issue. It says its pending RICA registration. I'll phone the call centre tomorrow and tell them to sort out the issue.

That was always the issue with mine, even after cancelling the RICA and then redoing it. Hence i say the RICA system seems to be an issue. There is a RICA helpdesk number online somewhere, but i suggest deal with one person at a store and ask them to cancel then redo the RICA, if still no luck then ask them to log a usd query with all the details: cell numbers, sim numbers and proper description of the issue.
